    Lot of stuck motors

I wasn't a Snap On guy but I did a lot of repairs for a few local dealers who dealt used boxes all the time back in the 80's. Every part of those boxes could be had in pieces, just like for a car. If someone ran into one with a car or dropped it off a truck and it got traded in, I'd replace the...

    Lot of stuck motors

Looks like a KRA59/380 SET, A KRL1201/1991, COMBO and an early SK/Mac/Matco 900 series roll cab from the Waterloo years. Those are good pro grade boxes. Add a fill of Snap On tools and there some serious cash there. Also some serious weight if your putting them down stairs.

    Marine Oil?

Around here the tell tale sign of an East Penn made battery is their style of sealed top, side venting cover. With older Interstate its always been the style of cap they used and refillable cells. The Clarios made AC Delco I just bought has neither and says made in Canada. on the label but has...

    Marine Oil?

Not really, Clarios was a brand or company that was created by Exide after Johnson Controls sold their battery division. Johnson Controls did not sell out or become Clarion as a whole. Clarion is not the same as old Johnson Controls. At least that's how the stock holders report shows it. JCI...

    Transom Construction Best Practices

I redid the transom in my old Grumman 16ft boat, it was a full length/depth transom that was originally just two sheets of 3/4 ply that lasted about 30 years or so with normal use stored in an old barn when not in use. When I redid it, I used exterior plywood, a sheet of 8 ply exterior ACX...

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Things like this that just sit for weeks is a good tell tale of how many are still boating these days here A later model 15hp for $250 with electric start wouldn't have lasted an hour five or ten years ago. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1422997885252408 Its likely one of the most...

    Smart Alternator

I bought a 250a from DB for mine, then tossed the regulator for an older Ford one. Kick the 6g alternator to the curb and go with the older, 3g and never look back. Be sure to run new, heavier, at least 4ga. cables to each battery too and run double grounds. The wiring to the rear of most...

Still looking for that little boat.

I got a kick out how you call $2k a 'cheapy', around here that's a $400 boat lately. I bought a 1990 Sea Nymph bass boat with aluminum floors that needed a lower unit reseal for $400, and thought I paid too much. I fixed the lower and sold it, it took till last month to finally get $1,000 for...

    Be carefull out there

I was 40 when I first started to feel like age was creeping up on me, I noticed I got winded faster, my knees got painful, and I gained 20 pounds due to less activity. It went downhill from there over the next 20 or so years. My ankles hurt all the time, my knees turns out are the least of my...

    Help identifying this hull

That looks like a good boat to fish or hunt from in some back woods pond but not in any sort of rough water. It'll be slow, rough, and hard to maneuver at slow speeds. I could see that thing in tow behind a real boat maybe hauling a load of fire wood or lumber to some back woods cabin with no...

    Trailer wheels worth upsizing?

My 14ft Starcraft SF14 is on a trailer that originally had 5.30x8" tires, which were effectively the same OD as a 4.80x12 tire. It was fine weight wise and height wise but I got tired of replacing the tires every two or three years due to dryrot. About 10 years ago I put new bunks on the...

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

There's always 'deals' on FB and CL but no takers. If I bought everyone of them I'd have 100 boats and motors. A neighbor has been trying to sell his old boat for years now, a '93 14ft Starcraft with an older 9.9hp Evinrude and a welded galvanized trailer. He moved here with it from PA about 8...

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Its been sort of dead here, a few boats are on the water but not nearly what I'd expect. They also made it hard to renew boat registrations here if you didn't register in 2020 during the pandemic. If you skip a year you have to go to a main or regional motor vehicle office to renew your...

Mid 1980’s Mercury 35 wire corrosion

Looks like a CDI module. Those wires don't need insulating, they need to be replaced. I'd cut back the harness until I got to clean wire and then solder and heat shrink on new leads and terminals. Use only tinned or marine grade wire, most likely 16 ga. If you can't get back to good wire, then...

    16' Stardraft motor capacity?

I figured I'd add an update here. By the time I got back last week, the 16' boat was no longer for sale, I'm thinking the owner decided not to sell it because when I went by there he had a super clean 33hp Evinrude on the back with a four blade prop, and the boat was full of crabbing gear...
