Is the motor height going to be an issue?

You did. I really didn't want to move the motor further back for several reasons. One was excessive bow rise if I upgraded to the 20hp which I did. And it has a longer tiller than the 9.9 so the reach didn't change much. But now I have the bow rise issue with the extra weight and it being set...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

If it was just me I would have kept the 9.9 I was more than pleased with it's performance. It really came down to safety. Im on a big lake and with my family in the boat it wasn't enough to get off the water quickly if we needed to. I'm good on my own but I don't take any chances when it comes...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Just an update for anyone who followed this and assisted me with getting things setup correctly. Maybe the info can help someone else too. The 2022-2023 mercury long shafts actually measure just over 22" by the manufacturer specs. Not 20" as usually stated on most specs found online. I ended...

Mercury 9.9 long shaft dimensions vs 20hp

It's an MLH model. It does run best when it's trimmed all the way down. Which also puts it almost parallel to the transom.

Mercury 9.9 long shaft dimensions vs 20hp

I measured from the top of the bracket to the cavitation plate and it's 20" it's the slope my transom is on. Even though it's a 20" transom it sits about 3 inches low when the prop shaft is parallel to the bottom of the hull. It doesn't really make a lot of sense because the slope of the transom...

Mercury 9.9 long shaft dimensions vs 20hp

I have a 2023 mercury 9.9 long shaft and on a 20" transom it still sat 3 inches low. I'm now buying a 2022 mercury 20hp and I'd like to know if it's identical in shaft length and how it sits because I was going to install a fixed jack plate to raise it up that 3 inches. I'm guessing the long...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Yes with limited space I would like to keep the floor space uncluttered for moving around. The cooler will already take up a bit. I'll wait to see how it runs with my better half in the front seat. What is a fantail?

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

It's a 2023 9.9 carb without electric start. I heard I can change the carb for a 15 but that just burns more fuel without much change in performance.

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Great info and as a new member here very pleased with this group. Thank you everyone for your assistance. I'd like to be able to run the motor in trim position 2. That puts the prop in the most efficient position once on plane. I'm thinking with the weight moved forward or someone else in the...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

No it's brand new. Just did the 2 hour break in with it then sent it full throttle to see what it would do. It's not ever going to be fast and that's ok. I just want it as efficient as it can be. If I could get it on plane sooner and be able to stay on plane at a lower speed I'd be happy. I have...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

It has to be trimmed down all the way to get on plane. One position higher and it won't do it. So it's not in the most efficient position. I don't have much experience with smaller motors so I wasn't sure if it was on par for the setup. I'll run it this season and see. Maybe go to a 20 next year...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

It's trimmed down all the way. Any higher and it won't plane out.

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Jack plates are expensive but I'd like the adjustability. For now I'll live with it and run it some more. See how it does with a second person in the boat. This motor weighs 84lbs but I have the tank and storage bin and a small 20ah lithium iron battery back there too. It might balance out...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Thank you. I'm trying not to over do it with things I don't need. Not a lot of space to work with but it needed a few things to make it functional. A casting deck would be nice but I'm going to run it like this for this season. Having the flat floor is already a bonus.

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

It's never going to be a fast boat. 20mph is more than enough for what I'll be using it for. It would be nice to get on plane easier though. I can drop it down to about 15mph and stay on plane. Anything below that it will drop off.
