Good morning,
I have been working on rebuilding this 62' evinrude 18hp and am running into 2 issues:
1) I finished connecting the lower unit and went to connect the shifter lock. The shifter lock F/N/R dimples wont perfectly align with each gear. Did I not properly "calibrate" the shifter lock with the shift rod when initially installing the lower unit? (see below picture of the shifter lock as far back in Reverse as it can go). When hand rotating the crank and simultaneously moving the shifter lock- I can prove the gearcase/shift rod IS working properly. However the shifter lock isnt sitting exactly where it should be with regards to proper shifting of Forward/Neutral/Reverse. And when it is moved to the forward position, it will fall into its respective slot in the shifter lock, however when I rotate the engine- the clutch dog seemes to be in neutral still and the prop doesnt move
2) I installed the aftermarket fuel pump however the shifter lock now completely blocks the fuel line facing the carb. Do I just need to rotate the fuel pump to face the opposite direction and re-route the fuel lines? Or are there some parts from the OEM fuel pump I can use to further extend the fuel pump out and away to clear the shifter lock? (see below picture)
Thank you for any help. I will most likely have further issues down the road....
