Part Wanted Looking for a Transom Corner Bracket, Fabricated if necessary

I had the exact same thing. They sell plastic ones on Ebay, but they are very flimsy. I ended up welding my own out of aluminum sign material someone gave me: I'm happy with how they turned out. Almost identical to the factory one until you look underneath and see the welds.

Well, I did it…. Minn Kona help needed

Well, I caught the fish. A LOT of fun on a little trout rod! Batteries were fine. Trolling motor works for everything besides turning the prop. I tried the stick trick, but no dice. Prop turns freely. I suspect it's an armeture, but I hope it's just the brushes. I'm most concerned...

Well, I did it…. Minn Kona help needed

I remember reading that you must be careful running a trolling motor at full speed with a lithium battery for extended periods. Well, we were fishing at the Virginia Beach, Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel. The tides there are extremely strong. We got into some nice red fish in very shallow...

Adding charging system to 1986 Merc 9.9 2-stroke?

I'm glad you commented. I looked, and mine is 48 dB. So not quite as quiet as the Honda at 46, but I got it for 1/5 the price, so I'm okay with that. You really don't notice it after a little while. The tone is really good, easy to ignore, just like the Honda. The current ones says 51DB...

3" diameter Ram mount to be drilled down in the front deck of my VT18 Crestliner Question

I put one in my center console, and it DOES get a lot of pounding, and it holds my Garmin Ultra 10 with no issues.

    Lot of stuck motors

Sad to hear that, about people being so broke. Around here, we are relatively close to the Washington DC metro area. Many people make the 2 hour drive to work in that area, so traffic is bad, but they make enough to live okay. Most aren't rich, but they are broke either. Because of that, an...

Adding charging system to 1986 Merc 9.9 2-stroke?

By the way, my 2,000W Wen is very comparable in decibel level as a Honda. I think it was 36dB if I recall correctly. Really like that little machine. It stays in my truck wherever I go.

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

The price of fuel is the reason that aluminum boats are so red-hot right now. People are ditching their gas-guzzling inboards and downsizing to a 17 or 18' Tracker or whatever brand, and can run all day on 10 gallons. $40 is a cheap day of entertainment, especially on the water. I had to...

Adding charging system to 1986 Merc 9.9 2-stroke?

Yes, you are mostly correct. I DID use it for the trolling motor, but it was a 14' boat with a little 30# Minn Kota, which doesn't use much juice, and I only used it to keep me on the edges of the reeds, which is very little use compared to many. I could go a couple of trips without charging...

    Lot of stuck motors

Hoarder, It's crazy how different our areas are! I'm in VA, not too terribly far south, and tin boats and ANY running motor is like gold. Bring a trailer full of the running ones down, and I would happily sell a bunch of them off for either a percentage, or I would get you a minimum price.

Adding charging system to 1986 Merc 9.9 2-stroke?

Okay, I'm going to be the oddball here. Mine was an Evinrude, but same concept. Parts were about $100. Needed a stator, a rectifier and a terminal strip. Was only a 4 or 6 amp stator, and everyone said it wasn't worth it. Took me about an hour to install, and from then on, I NEVER had to...

    Lot of stuck motors

I lost track, but how did it go with the boats and motors you picked up already? Sounded like a good haul. FB has been excellent for me, with a few still coming in on CL, but a lot slower. I buy and sell a lot. Another place that works is Ebay, but their selling costs are a bit high for...

Is this normal amount of water from these ports?

That's an example of where high rpm bypasses the thermostats. That engine looks okay, besides the miss at idle. Looking forward to hearing of how the OP's motor ran on the lake...

    Trailer wheels worth upsizing?

That looks much better, especially if you trailer a lot and/or a long distance.

    Marine Oil?

Give the chainsaw oil to a friend who may use it and buy a couple of gallons of Penzoil XLF Premium Plus Semi-synthetic 2-stroke oil. Very good stuff unless you have a direct injection engine. Very reasonably priced, too.

    Securing the Bimini ideas

Two bungee cords around the back corner cleats works well on mine. FWIW, I always order my bimini tops a size bigger than recommended so that it goes from gunnel to gunnel. That is necessary because if the bimini is made for a 72" beam, the top of most will only be like 67" wide, as most...

    Transom wood question

FWIW, I bought a boat with a 2x8 SYP transom board. It was obviously old. I pulled it out and inspected it, expecting to replace it. It was rock solid. I cleaned up the rest of the boat, and ended up putting it back in. Why fix what's not broken? So if you can get some SYP or white oak...

Still looking for that little boat.

Looks like a good buy! Hopefully, you did a compression test before buying, but you should do well with that one. $2k is a cheapy in my area, too. I could flip that one for probably $5k+ depending on cosmetics
