New Jet Motor advice for 16’ Xpress

My boat is a jet tunnel hull but my motor is a short shaft and I had to raise it 2" to get the right height. I got the windshield and grab rail from a guy in FL that advertises on Ebay from time to time. I'll see if I can find the information, he might have the dimensions now for that Lowe console s...

New Jet Motor advice for 16’ Xpress

If you think you're going to have 3 or 4 people in the boat, you'll probably want the 60/40 jet, or a 50/35 at the least. If you go with a forward console and remote steering/controls, it will help balance the weight out. My boat has the Lowe center console which is a nice height and pretty narrow. ...

Looking for Weights of different Hulls

You can check the NADA guides for some of the manufacturers. They usually show the weight of the bare hull.

Can trailer bunk replacement

I've done it both ways to a my last 2 boats/trailers. My 16' Lowe I swapped the rollers for bunks at the boat ramp with the boat in the water. On my sprint boat, I used a spare 2x4 as a temporary bunk and lifted one side of the boat off one old bunk with the 2x4 and floor jack (with jackstands as a ...

Do you own, or consider owning a jump starter?

I just got one for Christmas so it's now charged and in the glovebox ready to go.

Getting paid for boat

At the least you need to get a bill of sale and in NJ it has to be notarized to be able to transfer title and register it. The trailer though only needs a bill of sale to register it since NJ does not issue titles for trailers rated under 2500 lbs. I wish all the states would be consistent with titl...

Jon boat vs V hull

I think the mod v setup works the best for usually nice conditions. Everybody gets caught in rough conditions from time to time so the partial v will help in those situations but being pretty flat at the back helps with stability. But most of the shorter mod v boats aren't all that wide so some stab...

Selling boat question

I would leave the trolling motor and one depth finder while advertising it and like he said, if somebody low balls you, you can keep the stuff. That might help get a little more $$ out of a buyer since the stuff is already installed and ready to go. I've actually been selling a lot of stuff on CL th...

torn weld repairs?

I've seen so many of those Yamaha 60/40 jets mounted on the CMC plate really high like that. I'm surprised so many dealers install those long motors on short transom boats without building up the transom.

Converting a prop outboard to jet

Have you searched around your area for a complete jet outboard? For the cost of the jet unit, you might be able to find a jet motor and just swap motors. You may also want to look into a prop tunnel hull so you can run the motor higher and then you might not need the jet. With the weight you have, I...

UPDATE! Maybe tin no more

I think it bolts on where your hand crank winch is currently. Maybe if you were to use allen head bolts it might make it more difficult to remove quickly. My uncle used to have an electric winch on his old boat trailer and he could have that boat loaded up in no time.

UPDATE! Maybe tin no more

Sorry, I meant electric winch. I can see if you have the trailer backed in too far, those side guides would be too low to help.

Converting a prop outboard to jet

What size is your G3 and how many people or how much gear do usually have? It sounds heavy as it sits and extra people and gear would slow it down more. I have a 1652 with a 60/45 Mercury and with extra people it's just enough. If you had to run the jet at full throttle the whole time, it might driv...

UPDATE! Maybe tin no more

You could always add an electric winch to the trailer to help with loading but I was surprised when I put the vinyl downspouts on my bunks that it made it a lot easier to winch up. I can winch my boat up the trailer with my weaker arm easily. I don't even have side guides and with the bunks in the r...

UPDATE! Maybe tin no more

You might need to look more into a deep V layout with a floor. It would be better in a chop but I think they would feel less stable than a wide mod V. If you find stuff for sale in your area, definitely ask to go out on the water to see how the layout feels. I have never had a problem taking a poten...
