Battery location.

So, I'm thinking of putting the battery at the front of the boat for better weight distribution and a close connection to the trolling motor and then run wiring to the back for low wattage items like the depth finder and bilge pump. Should be able to use much smaller wire. Maybe 10 or 12 gauge? 12 ...

Anchors

I have a 15 lb mushroom anchor and a 10 lb navy type anchor, both work ok. I use them because they came with the boat, I am frugal.

How often do you check your u-bolts

I have never checked mine. Did your strap(s) in back break? Why did the boat leave the trailer?

Johnson 50hp not going above 4000rpm

I have a 48hp spl johnson on almost the same size hull and weight. So VERY similar to what you have and I get 30 mph tops with 2 people and fishing gear.
If mine I would check the bowls and high speed jets.

On board charger/maintenance to charge

I don't have the answer but I will tell you I had something similar with a marine battery charger I bought. I was charging 2 batteries but they were not hooked in parallel (2 bank charger). The charger never left the charging mode, 3 days later, still the same. I hooked the batteries up to my schuma...

The poor man's fishing boat

Don't throw the seats away. I think you will eventually want back support and the swivel option.
Have fun.

Water coming over transom

For some reason, a lot of boats were built with a short shafted motor in mind. When you have a short shafted motor, you need a shorter transom. So, the engineers designed in a "splash well" to handle the excess water you'd get when backing down. Most splash wells that I have seen have drain holes b...

I have a fisher, the capacity plate on mine is on the rear of the front deck. Hope that is clear. That is a nice looking boat.

6 Gallon Gas Tanks

I have a couple OMC duratanks (6 gal), don't know how old they are, pre 2011 for sure. They do not vent, swell up pretty good sometimes, I either release the pressure with the cap or sometimes I get a towel wet and throw over the tank to cool it down and keep the sun off it. I would not put a portab...

Plastic Tank Filters

Is that the filter on a OMC DURATANK? The 1990 era. I have 2 duratanks but I did not even know there was a fuel filter on them. I know the fuel pump
has a filter, not a great one but it is there.

THE BIGGEST TIN RUNABOUT

Yep, Starcraft Islander would probably be your best bet. Nice high gunnels and lots of them out there.
See a lot of them on the great lakes.

Best lower unit gear oil for a very old motor.

Guy probably just drained it before storage. I always drain the gear oil before winter sets in.
Refill in the spring.
