Well I have the same motor as you, I bought it from the original owner and asked him about the hole and he said he never had a plug in it and it never caused a problem from not having a plug. Since I've owned it I too have had no issues that could be caused by that hole or it not being plugged.

That is an access hole to one of the bolts hiding the lower unit on. When the time comes to install a new impeller you'll be using it.

duracraft mod- v 16' conversion

If it were me I'd replace it, probably not much of a chance of it ever failing but you never know. If you weigh the cost of replacement vs. picking your stuff up off the pavement it's worth it to fix it now, that's just me based on my history of poor decisions.

I'm with Kismet, we were 30 miles outside of BFE when a trailer hub decided to seize up, it's worth it to have the piece of mind.

I wire wheeled mine down to metal and used rustoleum rattle can primer and white paint. As I went through the trailer I replaced all of the hardware with grade 8 and all new spring bushings, bearings, tires, everything. I figured I'd eliminate as many variables as possible.

Nice find! I used a recycling place for most of the aluminum in my build, they sold it to me for the current scrap price. You'll find yourself staring at the hull trying to figure out your next move so much your family will think you're crazy. I've enjoyed my build a lot, tried to think things throu...

Great to hear about another duracraft destined for the water again. Lots of good ideas on this forum. Good luck with your build and post plenty of pics.

I was considering that route at one time except I was going to use a fine sand and sprinkle it on fresh paint then paint over it again but I found the Eco-tread.

Not sure on the UV, it's just a primer until it got covered by the Eco-tread. Time will tell how it's going to work, so far I'm happy, it's water based, non toxic and went on real easy. I had the boat sitting in the sun on Saturday, it was hot for sure but you could put your hand on it and keep it t...

I cleaned it with soap and water to remove dirt and oils, wiped it down with a rag and starting fluid then primed it with rustoleum self etching primer. Some guys on this forum use acetone instead is starting fluid, I've always used it for cleaning parts and removing grime, it works pretty good. I'd...
