Condense the word by using the first letter, and the last three letters, eliminating all other letters in between. It's a method of softening up some rather coarse language.

I adopted it as I grew older and wiser. Depending on the inflection one uses, it can be said as an expletive in mixed company.
Shoot, I have even growled out the word "biped", using it as an insult, but it's still factually correct.
