Not very recent but I just came across this on another boating site.

I had a plan to build a pontoon from aircraft tip tanks. Just a 2 man unit. But I bought my lowe so the tip tank build is out. I work at an aircraft salvage and they are basically useless for resale. we scrap em. None this bog though.

Your reply made me remember they were also using the smaller fuel tanks for the streamlined body of Bonneville Salt Flats cars. 8)
 
Very creative but I doubt that any of those huge tanks came from fighters that were mentioned in the article. More than likely those were from some of the larger bombers. I wonder how tipy/stable they are.
