I have been doing my research to start my boat soon. I keep seeing everyone recommending stainless bolts for certain things, but I also read that this will corrode the aluminum it touches. I searched for aluminum bolt here and cannot find anything.

Why wouldn't we use aluminum bolts / hardware? (cost?)

Thanks!

Stainless bolts & nuts are used due to the strength they offer. Aluminum bolts are usually quite weak in comparison.
P.S. ... I have not personally had any corrosion issues with using stainless hardware on any of the aluminum boats I have had. I will add a condition on that statement though...I don't leave my boats in salt water for extended periods of time.

Thanks for the reply. I don't plan to use it in salt water so stainless it is (if I don' rivet).

Ringo is spot on!
I snapped the heads off of all of the stock aluminum bolts by hand when I was replacing my transom.
