Figured this would definitely be the place to get some input on the mounting of a bird 898 hd si unit on a 1442 flat bottom. (I just picked it up new from HB for $799 btw)

Should I mount the "all in one" ducer just like my old 2d one? I have a small pvc rot free board with two sealed bolts, between ribs and the ducer about an 1/8 of an inch under the bottom of the hull.

I know i may have issues with looking past the lower unit. Any input please!!??

Congrats on the score, you are going to enjoy the di si feature.
From your description of the mount, I'm having trouble visualizing the setup.
The depth below the hull is good, but I'm unsure about the rest.
Can you post a pic?

I mounted mine on the transom on the port side about a ft off the center-line and away from the motor.
I mounted it on a block of PVC (scrap board) which spaced it about half an inch off the transom.
This gets it away from turbulence coming off the hull.
The SI DI shoots a very narrow beam through the slot between the transom and lower foot with
no problems or interference. Hope this helps. Jerry :)

that should work fine, if you do get interference or a dead spot, then just tilt the motor up a bit to give the clearance you may need.
