1996 Crestliner Kodiak 16'

Post by Givey1982 »

Looking for my first boat and have an opportunity to by a 1996 Crestliner Kodiak 16'. It has a 25 HP Mercury motor, Minnkota 40lb thrust trolling motor, and seats. It sits on a spartan trailer with 12" wheels. He is asking $2K.

Does this seem like a reasonable deal? Not many boats to select from here in the southwest.

Thanks for any feedback

Crestliner makes a decent boat. I have a 1977 16 Crestliner Voyager Deluxe on a spartan trailer.
Owned it for 7 seven years. No problems at all. Very happy with it.

The price seems about right from what I have been looking at for sale on Craigslist. If he is asking $2K then I would offer $1500 and try to settle on $1700.

I would for sure ask him to start up the motor with water going into it at a minimum.

Givey - there are many posts here about what to
look for in a used motor. Search those first, if you
are not already knowledgeable about used motors.

The boat is not the issue - it is the motor

I still have my original 1959 Crestliner so I too can
vouch for the boat as a goodun.

good luck

That boat in NH would be $3500.
I fish, therefore, I am.

Got it for $1700
Electric start motor with water pushing out the ports and very solid. Now i am off and running on improvements.

Love the forum and will be sure to post as I make modifications/improvements

I would STILL check the lower unit for leaking seals
and replace the impeller - then after a few hours running,
drain the oil and check it for water. If it is clean, just
put it back in.

C O N G R A T S !! you gonna like that Crestliner !!

Good advice.
I won't need it for a while so I have time to take your advice and do some more in depth checkouts
