Good evening all. First time posting as I’m new to the site, so don’t flame me too bad. I recently purchased a “salvage” Jon boat and trailer. I had bought it just for the trailer as I needed one for my 12 footer. When I went to pick it up, it was a lot bigger than I had thought. The pictures were deceiving and in the description it didn’t state the size of the boat. I never saw it in person until I went to pick it up. The boat ended up being a 1648. I brought it home and cleaned it up a bit, but was wondering if it would be worth fixing up to make a duck/fishing boat out of it. I have attached some pictures for y’all to help me decide. It looks like the past owner hit something hard and cracked the bow and 3 support beams across it. It has a pretty good size hole in the front of the starboard side. The transom needs to be replaced and had a few other little holes that need repair. I’m asking for y’all opinion on what else I may need to think about looking at to decide if it’s worth fixing, or if I should scrap the idea completely and just use the trailer for my 12 footer. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks. I’m only into the boat and trailer for $40.00 so far (SCORE!!!). I have access to welders and what not to work on it. This would be a winter project in between hunting season.

That hull would be excellent for duck hunting and fishing. If you want a project, and the majority of the hull is in good shape, and you have the skills to do some of the work, IMO it would be worth the effort.
I would do just the basics first, fix the transom, fix the ribs and any other damage, and then go from there.
MAKE SURE that you can get it registered before you do anything.

X2 on the registration. Paperwork first. Then absolutely fix it. Even if you have to spend 4-500 on welding it up, I think it's worth saving. Paint it up and go fishing!

I’ll come and buy it from you for $200 and you can make a nice profit.

Heck yea you should keep the boat and fix it... perfect project boat that you practically got for free.

You guys kill me with these deals you find.
