I bought a 14’ semi-v hull aluminum boat from an individual. He had a title for trailer and a watercraft certificate of title. It says...
1958 SEA MAID
the HIN is only 4 digits on the documentation
It just doesn’t seem right from all that I’ve tried to research.
It has most of the nameplate/logo on one side...and it says Hiawatha. I have looked up everything I possibly can and can’t find any info to know it’s really what it says it is. I don’t know why it has manufacturer as SEA MAID (with a space, not one word) and it has NO MODEL. I’m trying to figure out where the “Hiawatha” comes from (only thing O can find is motor by Gamble-Skogmo.

Any help would be very useful.

Sea Maid was a mfg but not much info.

Hiawatha was a brand of outboards sold at Gambles dept. stores... maybe that did a line of boats too ?

Seamaid was...but not Sea Maid. It’s weird that it would say that with the space in between.

I’ve tried to find a “Hiawatha” model boat from ANY manufacturer and can’t. It’s missing the lower part of the H on the original logo (other side has nothing). I guess it doesn’t truly matter, but I’d really like to know EXACTLY what make/model and year this boat is. I am trying to refurbish / mod this boat, but I want to see some original stuff like logos and such...but can’t because I haven’t seen a boat with “Hiawatha” on it. Seamaid didn’t make a boat named Hiawatha...and I can’t find enough 1958 info about Seamaid boats.

The link I posted shows it as 2 words.

Likely it was a small mfg that mostly did Gambles product line. Researching Gambles catalogs from the 50s might be worthwhile.

The script and handles seem like a definite match.

Also notice that the Hiawatha name replaces the SeaMaid name. That tells you it was a total re-branding, not just a model name.

It does look like the same style. I just can’t figure out why it has a Hiawatha badge on it...and it’s original. The other side one is gone but rivets are still there. I wish I could find a 1958 sea maid picture like that one. The one you showed is 1956. I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with figuring this out...but I am.

Hiawatha bicycles....

Yes...that’s the only thing I can come up with.
So did Gambles finish the boat, add an outboard motor of their own and then brand it with the Hiawatha name?

It’s the SAME exact font / badge as the Gambles Hiawatha bicycles.

Seamaid manufactured the boat and put Gambles branding on it. I"ll bet you the rivet holes line up between the 2 different badges.

Hiawatha motors are interesting too... you could restore one and have a very rare classic boat...

I wonder if I can find a Hiawatha motor.
I’d like to know what model this is by Seamaid so that I know what it’s Specs are, what hp motor it probably had on it (guessing 5 - 7.5), etc.
That would help me in my quest.

I'd guess this one... measure your boat and compare.

Hiawatha's are a bit of an acquired taste.... you can find them pretty often on Craigslist...
