1980's 7.5 Honda 4 stroke

Anybody have any insight on this motor? Looked at it today and itis in mint condition. Guy inherited it from father-in law and was rarely used because he had a couple other motors. Garage kept. comes with original tank and tool kit. He want's a premium price for it, but as stated the condition is pristine. I think it's the perfect motor for my 12' V-hull. Anyone ever own this motor? How much is too much?

NADA often seems to be way off base from real world cash values. The value to one person may be quite different than to another. The Honda's condition is certainly well cared for. If I were offered an equally nice Evinrude, Johnson, or Mercury 7.5hp, I would pay a great deal more than for the Honda. If that engine runs as good as it looks, it will sell for a lot of money. I got good money for the one I had... I didn't keep the engine for myself. I owned that exact engine you have there and many E/J/Ms. My 2c worth.

I think it would be worth more to a collector than to someone who would actually use it, so the price would be hard to determine except its worth X to you/buyer or the seller.

it runs as good as it looks, however he wants 990 for it, I think I'm opting out for a new tahatsu 6hp for 1300 and a 5 year warenty.

990 is way out of line. coils are pricey, they tend to get exhaust leaks. for the money i would think you could find a nice used new tohatsu. there was a 2005, 9.8, electric start tohatsu for sale, 675. i didnt have the money or i would have grabbed that one. i would think for 1000 you could find a better deal? stick with yamaha or tohatsu on the 4 stroke.

Ya, that was my thought also; He wouldn't budge on the price either, so he can bring it back to Jersy with him and I guess he doesn't care and for that money niether do I. The electric start 9.8 is what I want, but I would settle for the 6hp if I have to. It's just for fishing and I usually don't ever go over a mile to a spot or I put in at a different ramp. 3 miles would be the most I ever go. 9.8 would open it up for faster escape from incoming weather or a farther spot....but new 9.8 elec is 2400 compard to 1300 for a new 6hp; but I'll keep looking.

thanks, plan is for a new 6hp Tahatsu: DI can pay cash for it. Would love to have a 9.8 electric start, but that would go on a credit card and I just git them payed off.
