Changing Lower Unit Lube - DIY

Post by captain belly »

Didn't realize how many of my friends paid for lube changes. It's really simple if you have a motor like mine. Here's a video I made that might inspire someone to DIY. Now all I need to do is learn how to change the pump inside. That's expensive!

There is videos on that too.. every brand of motor is slightly different in regards to the shift linkage, but the job is basically the same.

Yep, chainring the pump on most motors is dead easy.

It’s all the bull you may run into doing the job that will get ya!

Nice video. I wish my Honda's plugs used the hex wrench instead of a slotted screwdriver. I always fumble around getting the bottom plug aligned and back in. Don't know why. It is like my nemesis. Lol.

If you put the top in first you can take your time with the bottom.. the drop or two you may lose is no big deal.
