I've suggested a mud motor section with no luck. I've been thinking about putting a longtail on my 12ft jon. It would be great for those times when my river gets too much hydrilla.

I have very limited experience with Jets, Long Tails and Hyperdrive but from what I do have if you are going to be in different types of water with weeds, mud and gravel / sand / shoals the hyperdrive is a good fit for all of the above. A longtail will do it if the operator is capable but they are pretty unforgiving in rocks if your attention lapses for a moment. Jets are ideal unless their is vegetation and then they can be a major hinderance. Hypedrives are the best of both worlds, in my opinion, although they are just as unforgiving in rocks as a long tail. All of them are a pain to operate but a wheeled jet boat is the best at speed...at low speeds they are a PAIN, in my experience. Hyperdrives are slightly less work to operate than long tails...long tails will simply WEAR you out, at least in my experience, if ran for any length of time.
