So I've been fishing this local lake for about 10 years now, at least a couple times a season. Needless to say its never coughed up anything good for me, and I've struggled to catch a pike over 40" anywhere that I fish. About 4 years ago I swiched up my pike/muskie program after fishing with a freind that tuna fishes offshore. I only use dead bait now and a special rig that has given me a 100% landing ration on any legitimate bites. I've caught over a dozen fish to 38, but never over 40. Last year my first fish through the ice was a 40" tiger muskie. This year for first ice I only had some leftover ocean herring from last spring, but I figured I'd give it a shot  Well this years first 2 fish DIDN'T dissapoint. I bested my PB 2 times in one day, with almost a third. First a 41" northern, followed by a 42" and then a 38" dink.
