I fish inside SD Bay near Shelter Island quite a bit. Im often tempted to head right out to open water, but being in a 1436 im a little nervous. I handle these waters in a Kayak with no problem. Just wondering if anyone has ventured out of the bays in a little tin. Any tips?

I fish open ocean in a Gregor 13'. We beach launch on the central ca. Coast and fish anywhere from 100yd. To 3 mi. Off shore
 
Awesome. I bet the Gregor does pretty good in the chop. My flat Jon is a little rough. This weekend I finally ventured out about a mile from Dana Point Harbor where I launched. As I get more comfortable Im sure Ill go farther. Also need an outboard, still running on two deep cell batteries and a trolling motor. Thanks for sharing.
