I've owned this boat for 20 plus years and getting ready to do a final rebuild. When i boat the boat all those years ago from a friend, it was whooped. He left it out all winters to just fill with snow and it rotted. So I rebuilt it all stock as it came new. Even though I keep it covered, living on a lake creates a moisture problem for the carpet. The other problem is this boat only gets used a half dozen times a year, I own 3 boats.
So last year I replaced the floor with marine grade plywood and coated it with a textured deck restore product. It works great. I then reconfigured the front deck and console and covered them in vinyl. The last of the carpet was on the gunwales and bow plate. As you can see from the pictures (sorry they are sideways) I just pulled the carpet from the gunwales. I also included a picture of the moss covered bow plate. Needless to say, I am done with carpet.
I am thinking I would like to paint the gunwales and bow plate. What I am struggling with is how Bluefin riveted the front third of the gunwale. I've included a picture of their sloppiness, it's on both sides that way. It does not line up and poses a sharp edge problem. I have tried to search for an inner trim for the gunwale with no luck. I am going to cover all the years of screw holes with JB Marine and sand smooth to paint. I thought maybe I could use that to clean up that edge. Just not sure, so thats were you guys come in:
1. Am I being too picky?
2. Is there a trim avenue?
What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance

This is way late, but I see that no one responded. Sorry about that. Your JB weld idea should work well. I just got a Spectrum, which I think is the same boat with a different name. Have you considered using marine vinyl over the gunwales?

If you have already done the work, I'll stop responding, but if it's still a work in progress, say so, and I think people will chime in. Everyone is busy in March. Not so much in February.

Either way, I hope it goes/went well.
