I'm not seeing anywhere on can about self etching. I did use this year's ago, and except for some dock rash it held up really good. But I see everyone saying self etching is best. The only things I see referenced on my can is above water only, and "oil alkahyde" to prevent chipping. Any thoughts?

Thanks

If it doesn't say, then it probably isn't. I used some of the Rustoleum spray paint that was self etching, that was some pretty tough primer direct to the aluminum hull.

I think the Top Side paint/primer you are referring to is the same stuff I just used, which "can" be used on metal but more appropriate for wood/fiberglass. I just used some of that to repaint the floor of my boat (plywood), coat of the primer and then some coats of the Top Side paint on top of that.
