    Fuel/water filter and direct sunlight

the filter I have is a Sierra 10micron: There doesn't seem to be any plastic. The head is aluminum and the cylinder (filter) is also metal. Since the filter will be connected to the fuel line that has a fuel pressure valve, do you guys think the pressure in the filter would be taken care of...

    Fuel/water filter and direct sunlight

I just bought a fuel/water separator filter to reduce stuff going into the carb, and they say on the instructions not to put it in direct sunlight. The issue is everything at the back of in my boat where I keep the fuel tank and battery is in direct sunlight... Is it really problematic to keep...

Mercury 9.9 4 stroke does not hold idle position

ok so I ended up having a carb rebuild done, everything seems fine now (fingers crossed until I test it on the water and not only in the driveway...).

Mercury 9.9 4 stroke does not hold idle position

Ok so after a few more tests it now does hold idle but when I increase the rpm continuously I hear the engine make more noise then much lower (almost as if would stop) then back up again. I don't recall seeing that before but maybe I disn't pay too much attention, I don't know... Does it ring a...

Mercury 9.9 4 stroke does not hold idle position

First of all I apologize if this is a naive/stupid question... I am a new boater with not much experience... I have a 9.9hp 4 stroke Mercury outboard bought new last winter that I used all season and the dealer winterized at the end of the season. I started it for the 1st time this year and it...

    protect transom from outboard clamps

do you need to bolt it through the transom or add screws to keep it in place?

    protect transom from outboard clamps

I didn't measure the transom width but it is clearly more than 3/4", maybe 1 1/2"? If not for limiting vibrations it would at least avoid damaging the aluminum and paint more that it is.

    protect transom from outboard clamps

Thanks for the feedback guys! My transom has wood inside and aluminum on top of it. The aluminum of the transom took the shape of the outboard clamps on the inside of the boat. You don't see it too much because I jut put new paint, but it is more visible on the exterior on the transom where I...

    protect transom from outboard clamps

I saw on several tin boats a piece of wood or other material on the inside and outside of the transom where we clamp the outboard and I am wondering what are the uses for this. Is it only to prevent cosmetic scratches on the aluminum/paint or does it also help reduce vibrations from the...

thanks for the reply, let's do some sanding :D

    saltwater and alluminum corrosion

Thanks. I found the oil based primer #7780 from rustoleum that would be compatible with OSPHO, but it says in the instructions that "smooth, hard, or glossy finishes should be scarified by sanding to create a surface profile" which I think is the case for the inside paint in my boat. Is this the...

    saltwater and alluminum corrosion

This is one of the things I was looking at and made me think about latex aluminum primer or epoxy 1k, but the OSPHO is messing up all this plan since the manufacturer says it is best with oil based primer instead of latex or epoxy primers... I don't want to have the paint lift up or detach after...

    saltwater and alluminum corrosion

looks like por15 is to use only on bare metal, not on previously painted surfaces. Because the paint inside the boat is in good shape for 90% of the whole surface, I don't want to strip it and add por15 on top of it, it would be way too long. plus the price of this stuff is crazy... doing the...
