    If you need to choke it to re-start it, the low speed possibly needs adjustment. If that doesn't help, I would look in the carb myself to see what exactly has been done.

    Nat, Marine Tex is pretty good stuff and can be worked and machined quite a bit. I think it is work a try. If that doesn't do it, you may have to find a replacement gearcase section at one of the auction sites, or a outboard parts dealer.

    Josh, You can get a repair kit for that pump from Napa, for around $15. The instructions for repair can be found on Leroy's site. Have to take care to be very clean, but I have repaired two different OMC pumps with success.

    Evinrude 18hp shift issue

    Cloud, I have the same motor. There is an adjustment screw on the shift lever, above the grease fitting. You need to loosen it, and play with the adjustment until it will stay in forward gear. The pin on the lever that rides in the detents on the shift lock should travel pretty much the same...
