    Steel Flex removal

Any ideas on an easy way to remove steel flex? I know how to remove it but I have yet to find a easy way. Thinking of trying to burn it off this evening, is this even an option? I'm having the transom replaced with aluminum next week and I need to remove all the steel flex where there are...

    Welded crack still leaking

This is the picture of the crack after it was welded. It not a great picture, but its all I have at the moment. It is leaking on the left side. Its not leaking bad, but I can't stand a leak if it can be fixed. Thanks for the responses. I am going to call and see if they think they can weld it...

    Welded crack still leaking

I have a crack between the end of a rib and the transom on the bottom of my boat. I believe the crack was caused because the bunk was too short. I replaced the bunks. The bottom of the boat has steelflex but it cracked with the aluminum. I had to clean it off in order to get it welded, which was...

Mercury 40hp died on the water

I took the boat back out this weekend and it messed up again. This time it had fuel dripping from the bottom of the lower carb. The fuel appeared to be coming from inside of the carb and not the vent hole. When I got home I removed the carbs. The more I messed with it the more fuel that poured...

Mercury 40hp died on the water

Thanks for the ideas and advice. The motor has ran fine ever since and has not gave me any more problems. I am just going to run it and see if it happens again. Does any one know about how fast this motor should push a 1651 polar kraft? The best I have been able to obtain is right around 20mph...

Mercury 40hp died on the water

I did not notice or smell any gas, and I called myself looking because I figured it was a float issue and expected gas to be coming out of the vent on the carb. I used the electric trolling motor to make it to the ramp. The part that has me stumped is that is has fixed itself(for now) and I cant...

Mercury 40hp died on the water

The bulb and the tank are fairly new. There has only been two tanks of fuel thru them. The bulb will prime up hard as a rock right now, but wouldn't the other day on the water for nothing. I just don't feel like the bulb is the problem, but I will give it a try. If it is not the problem it cant...

Mercury 40hp died on the water

Saturday I spent a good part of the day on the water and the motor ran fine all day. Then when we were headed in I hit a decent sized wake and the motor died. We were in sight of the ramp. The fuel bulb would not prime back up. It still had plenty of fuel in the tank(maybe 1/2 a tank). I trolled...

    Polar Kraft 1651...Old Shock Boat

I did redo the trailer too. I replaced the tires, the wench, and the bearings. Removed the rust with a wire wheel, then primed and painted it. I also replaced the bunks and added all new ss hardware.

    Polar Kraft 1651...Old Shock Boat

This is a old shock boat that was used to check fish populations by biologist. I purchased the boat this past winter after it had been sitting up for about 10 years. So far I have gutted it, applied steelflex to the bottom and painted it, floored it in 0.125 aluminum, and I added a trolling...

    1991 Mercury 40hp 2stroke 4cy

I found a service manual, it is ordered but not in yet. I rebuilt the fuel pump and replaced all the fuel lines. I pulled sea foam thru the engine. I have fuel leaking from the vent in the lower carb, I assume the needle has a groove or there is still some trash in there preventing it from...

DaleH, thanks for the replies and the message. Do you happened to remember where you purchased the manual or the best place to get one?

    1991 Mercury 40hp 2stroke 4cy

Thanks for the info, I filled the carbs with seafoam and I'm going to let it sit until the diaphragm kit arrives. I am going to try and get by the parts house to get some new fuel line and replace that while I'm at it. Maybe by this weekend I will try and fire it up.

    1991 Mercury 40hp 2stroke 4cy

I have a 1991 Mercury 40hp that has been sitting up outside for over 10years. I cleaned all the dirt dobber nest off. I removed the spark plugs and filled the cylinders with pb blaster and let them sit over night. The starter was rusted together and would not spin, I removed it and broke it...
