I had a 74 Evinrude 9.9 which is the same motor except for the carb. It will spit water out the back. I believe they put the tell-tale stream on the later 70's version of that motor.

If you are making the jump from a 9.9 2-stroke to a 15 hp 4-stroke, my father-n-law did something similar. He got a brand new Honda with power tilt and electric start. You may want those bells and whistles if you make the jump.

Are there any issues of oil creeping down into the cylinders when you throw today's small 4-stroke outboards 6 hp or less into the back of a pickup truck for transportation? I never thought of this issue since I've used only small 2-strokes.

You can leave your outboard on the boat. The effect on a stern mounted trolling motor can be compensated for easily. If you are going through weeds I recommend put the outboard in the up position.

If you are trolling than the 55 may make you go too fast.
