    My (hopefully) boat project.

So.... I took a lot longer than I planed to get started on this, and I took my time, but it is finally done.

    Hull Identification Number

My 12 foot flat bottom, bought used, was made in the 1960s. There is not a HIN anywhere on it. When I got it registered, the state (Ohio) had a HIN on file. The worker at the said it may be a state generated number, and I should make sure it gets put on the boat. So, should I etch or stamp it...

    Replacing transom

Nice. And so obvious. I feel kind of dumb. :o

    Replacing transom

So, I'm replacing the transom board on my 12 ft jon. The factory board (long gone when I got the boat) seems to have been an inch thick by 10 inches high by 32 - 40 inches wide. I made a template out of cardboard. Cut two 19/32" pieces of plywood to shape and glued them together with Titebond...

    Repurposing old props?

Maybe you could do something "artsy-fartsy" with them. I don't have any kind of crafty skill, but people on Pinterest seem to re-purpose just about everything. Might make a good man-cave or shop decoration with them.

Outrageous idea? Lightweight floor and decking FOAM

I have been thinking about pink or blue foam between ribs, covered by foam puzzle mats. The puzzle mats could be screwed into the ribs to hold them in place -- just use big washers. You can buy 24 sq. ft of grey puzzle mats with a faux diamond plate texture for about $25...

Just Bought a Sears Gamefisher 1232 with trailer... Mistake?

I have a fairly similar boat, 1236, and I was disappointed to see that most of the cool mods around here are not feasible for me. But I decided to make the most of what I have in functionality, looks, and safety. I think I will be very happy in the end, even without a high casting deck, hatches...

    12' mods

Your boat (like mine) does not have numerous, massive ribs going up the sides. Just across the floor. So the seats do add support, where as they may not be as critical in other boats. Looks like you will have to get creative, or work with what you've got.

    Two questions ... for now...

    1. Rattle can painting... is it realistic on a 12' boat, assuming the bottom will be steel flex coated, and most of the interior will be hidden with carpet? 2. Removing the middle bench... my boat will be rowed more than anything. Can a pedestal seat withstand the leaning forward and pulling...

My 1985 PolarKraft project (HELP, I BROKE my boat! page 13)

    Absolutely fantastic. Looks very professional.

    What a find!

I'll give you $55 for it .... no wait, $60 :) Congrats. Hope I find something like that trolling CL!

    My (hopefully) boat project.

I've been doing so much reading here, and it has helped me make some decisions. First the main considerations: 1.) This boat will stay on small lakes and ponds. If ever on a large lake, it will stay fairly close to shore. 2.) It will be rowed or pushed with a trolling motor. A gas motor would...

    My (hopefully) boat project.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but am I right in keeping the middle bench for rowing? Could a pedestal seat there hold up to the leaning back and forth that goes with rowing? And the reason I'm sticking with this idea, the closest park has 3 small lakes, and two allow for human powered...
