I have a 1994 merc 40 hp 2 cycle with electric start. Once in a while the starter fails to engage the flywheel, just spins. Is this indicating a new starter? Can one of these be rebuilt? Any fixes that can be done by myself?

That is exactly what I'm looking for. My confusion comes in making sure I am purchasing pins and bases that are interchangeable. Also where is the best source. Oh , buy the way, there is something about this site that sets it apart, the willingness to help one another, thanks.
