    lowe vs alumacraft 1236 Jon

Can only speak for the Lowe 1257. It may be a little beamier, thus the extra weight even though the lighter aluminum. Put a 9.8 four stroke on this boat and hang on. Very stable by the way.

    303 High Tech Fabric Guard

303 Fabric Guard is the only product recommended by the fabric manufacturers like Sunbrella. I treat all fabric Bimini tops, side curtains, covers with it twice a year. Expensive stuff, but the Florida sun is really tough on exposed fabric. It will fix your water penetration problem, assuming...

    anchor cleat

They work great, just remember to secure the bitter end to something substantial on the boat.

    Butt Joint Glue?

My approach was to coat the plywood pieces, top, bottom, and sides with Evercoat resin before assembly. If you used this instead of polyurethane, you could use fiberglass tape and more resin on the butt joints. I didn't have any butt joints on this boat but have had on other boat projects...

    interior boat paint

Flat paint would be my choice for the interior, no reflections or glare. Something light, as anything dark will heat up quick in the sun making you feel like you are in a solar oven. Rustolium is good. With the self etch primer you should be ok to skip the Alumaprep (etching) step, but a good...

    Slider g

Wished I would have seen the ad for the slider before I did this. I had to pick where the seats were to go and couldn't move them side to side. The slider is a better solution.

Would you buy a brand new boat?

I bought new and modified it to my liking for river fishing and getting into shallows. However, if I would have known about this site and the hundreds of ideas posted here, I would have looked for a used boat that I could modify. I would go for a new motor no matter what as most problems are...

    farmtek decking

Stuff looks like another brand of Starboard or Seaboard. If so, it is impossible to glue. It is very slick. It makes great hatches and bulkhead panels, but walking on it wet or dry is not a great idea.

How to attach carpet to aluminum floor?

I attached the carpet with outdoor carpet adhesive from HoDep. I rolled it with a wooden roller to conform with the ribs and contour of the bottom. It is holding up well. Since then I have seen other posts where marine vinyl was used. When the carpet wears out, I think I'll go with the...

    Lowe Jon Boat Paint

My Lowe came with a can of spray paint for the interior. It is a Lowe product should be available from Lowe dealer.

    Outrageous price on Lowe?

    I didn't fine Lowe's outrageous. I bought my 2012 A1257 for $1245. Base boat no options.

    anodes

I think most of us here trailer, launch and retrieve every time we go out with an occasional one to two night stay in the water. Unless you are operating in salt water and keep the boat in the water, I can't see the benefit in adding anodes. However, your mod is a good one, and it can't hurt.

duck boat lights and battery ideas

I just put a sealed 12v Gel Pack on my Lowe 12' to run my fish finder. Humming Bird has it on line with a 12v charger for about $35. It's 7.2ah measures about 2w x 3h x 6L". Should do what you want based on how long you said you wanted to run lights.
