    1648 fisher-marine progress

Thanks for nice comments. Yea, I'm going to use cut foam board. Good idea about "seating". I borrowed a seat from buddy of mine just to make sure I had the console in right place. I haven't purchased seats yet, but kind of leaning toward a seat made of vinyl with padded insert.

    1648 fisher-marine progress

Making some progress on build of fisher-marine. Finished the trailer. Added new wood on bunks, wheels and tires, paint, trailer jack, winch, re-did transom, new wiring and lights. Started framing with aluminum angle. Everything is riveted. Made the rod box out of 2x2s, (ran out of scrap...

    trailer up grade

Just some pics of some upgrading to trailer. I added steel for side bunks, new fenders. Sanded all of trailer, and primed. Got to decide what color to go with. Want to paint it as soon as possible so I can put boat back on it. There are some pics of the various stages of what I made, step plates...

    Transom fix

Pictured below is the inside cover on 1648 Fisher marine transom. Please note the amount of holes. The aluminum sheet is extremely thin. Not sure of the thickness. This piece covers the wood on transom on inside of boat. Any suggestions of how to fix this one? Really do not know where to...

    drain hole problem

Think I'm going to get a couple of aluminum drain tubes and have them welded in. Thanks for all the help.

    drain hole problem

As you can see from the pics, the drain holes are "thinned walled' and missing some material. I tried drain plugs, but not very tight and secure. Should I just remove the drain holes and seal the old holes and install new drain? and do I need 2 drain holes?

    another painting question

LOL. Thanks Barefoot. I didn't retire from USN, and to be honest with you, in the Navy I was trained more to launch and recover aircraft . I do remember painting a number or two on an aircraft, but in a very small way. I think you are right, over thinking will wear you out. While I've got you...

    another painting question

Thanks barefoot. Since I haven't "rubbed" on this boat enough, I went ahead and went over the whole boat with Green scratch pad. When I get ready to paint, can I use just a top-coat paint? Do I really need a bottom paint? The boat will go to the lake, I will fish, and boat will be re trailered...

    another painting question

Yea, another painting question. 1648 Fisher Marine project. I cleaned boat with Aluminum Brightner, decided to try and buff out to get some kind of shine. I used 3m rubbing compound, and a rag. Boat looks o k, but I am all tuckered out . Pretty much finished one side, but I'm thinking of just...

my new addition 1648 fisher marine

Thanks for nice comment. I plan on building front deck, with storage , rear deck with livewell, side console, adding plywood to decks ( floors). Right now I have a 28 hp Johnson. I think I have enough area to build rod box and still have "moving around room". I have aluminum for framing the...

my new addition 1648 fisher marine

Finally got it home. A 1979 1648 Fisher Marine. Boat looks like it's in good condition, but the trailer on the other hand needs a lot of work. Looking forward to starting on build.

    28 HP Johnson

Yes there is a boat and trailer. I purchased a 1648 fisher marine w/trailer for $325.00. ( pic is on another topic, matter of fact, you commented on the topic, how to attach carpet without exposed screws). I should have said the "motor" needs.... Sorry about that. Anyway, It is controls, not...

    28 HP Johnson

Hey folks. Ran into a fellow who has a 1990, Johnson 28 hp for sale. Boat needs water pump, gear lube, carb cleaned, fuel lines replaced, and spark plugs. Did compression test, 119psi/121psi top and bottom cylinders. He's asking $400.00. Is it worth it? ( Looking to put it on a 1648 Fisher Marine).
