What to watch out for: 1990(ish) 15hp Johnson

It’s an 88 model according to the title. Could I use the older style carb on it? Not sure I can even rebuild the Evinrude carb due to corrosion. I suspect the motor was either sunk or allowed to fill with water at some point because of the sand and rust in it.

Part Wanted ISO 0396605 - Nozzle Well for 15 hp Johnson

All of the parts warehouses show it to be discontinued and out of stock. I can find a couple on ebay but they are 2-3x MSRP for the part.

Part Wanted ISO 0396605 - Nozzle Well for 15 hp Johnson

I need a new nozzle well for my '8815hp Johnson. The housing on mine is cracked around where the idle tube hooks up.

What to watch out for: 1990(ish) 15hp Johnson

No joy on the parts motor. It’s old enough that it has a totally different carb on it. I’m debating just slapping some fuel safe RTV on it and rolling on for now. It’s not like it will be that hard to pull the carb and replace the nozzle well later if it becomes an issue.

What to watch out for: 1990(ish) 15hp Johnson

Got the fuel bowl off and it’s in worse shape than I thought. The idle tube had completely disintegrated and the nozzle well is cracked where the idle tube hooks up. Marinerngines has the idle tube but shows the nozzle well to be discontinued… I have an older Evinrude parts motor. Hopefully...

What to watch out for: 1990(ish) 15hp Johnson

Based on personal experience and a lot of 2nd hand knowledge, I'd say their primary purpose is to make blood sacrifices to the mechanic gods. I can't seem to fix anything motorized without it taking its pound of flesh.

What to watch out for: 1990(ish) 15hp Johnson

I'll trade you gas in a cut for Brake Clean... That stuff has a knack for finding every bump, scrape, and nick you've ever had on your hands. Hand is mostly better already. Hurts like hell if I hit it wrong and I don't have full grip strength back yet; but, it's good enough that I'm going to...

    1973 16’ Monark repair/rebuild

I thought I had deleted the above comment instead of posting it.... I reasoned out my answer while typing and did not intend to post it. Leaving it in though so I have a record of what I was thinking at the time lol

    1973 16’ Monark repair/rebuild

After talking with an old river rat, I'm considering doing either a 1/8" or 3/16" aluminum patch instead of having it welded. He raised a good point that the patch would provide a lot more support than rewelding it ever could. My big concerns with the patch are the cost of aluminum and the...

    1973 16’ Monark repair/rebuild

“Come together” is kind of a loose term for this project. I’m doing this so I have a boat that I can put in the stumps without worrying about scrapes, dings, etc. She is very much going to be a “Bertha” not a “Betty”

What to watch out for: 1990(ish) 15hp Johnson

Might be a few days before I get back to the carb. I accidentally shanked myself in the hand with a screwdriver. The fuel bowl seems to have glued itself to the carb body. In the process of attempting to pry it loose, the screwdriver slipped and found a new home between my thumb and index...

What to watch out for: 1990(ish) 15hp Johnson

Parts came in today. I'm going to try to get the carb rebuilt and re-installed this evening. The heat index is currently 105F and my ol' lady nixed the idea of rebuilding it in the house for some strange reason lol. So, it's going to have to wait until it cools off this evening or first thing in...

    1973 16’ Monark repair/rebuild

Pulled the transom wood this morning… it was worse than I thought. The piece of the original transom next to the aluminum had totally rotted away and 2nd piece was about 1/3 gone. Instead of replacing the transom wood, the previous owner just slapped another piece of plywood on and left a void...

It's a small white disk about 1" thick and maybe 3" in circumference. Usually mounted to the hull either next to the driver or on the bow

Pretty sure we have a position puck. No telling if it is hooked up right or not though. Dad isn't the most tech savvy of individuals. I haven't had a chance to go look at the manual yet. It isn't in the current manual but we both remember it saying something about increased accuracy using a HB FF

    1973 Monark transom/stress crack repair

88' 15hp Johnson. A 16' jon from 73 is rated for somewhere between 25-30 hp, depending on the model. I can't find the tag on it and the title doesn't have a model number for me to be certain.

    Jonboat Project

I'll have to go back and look at my manual. I remember it saying something about the radius changing with a HB FF, but I don't remember the specifics. Could also be that it's running on an older software version. They bought the motor a couple of years ago and, to my knowledge, it's never been...
