Should I or Shlould I not

Get a john boat with a 20hp and go to Lake Lockamixon! Personally, I wouldn't want to take a trolling motor/batteries/everything else out of my boat when I'm not using it. I would suggest a local storage place. Can't be that much to store a boat. However, for the situation that your in. That...

Should I or Shlould I not

I don't know much about 6 year olds but they grow pretty fast. Seems like you could get a good used bare john boat for that price that would be a bit bigger. But, there is something to be said about buying something new. Are you going to have to pay the $250.00 in shipping? Are you planning...

My First Build - 12' 40" Meyers Jon Boat (updated 5/24/2010)

I'll tell what would be slick is a 1/4" thick piece of aluminum cut in the same shape as that outer transom that was made of wood. Take that and use some 5200 and some counter sunk hex SS #10 to bolt it through that transom. That would take care of your problem and look cool at the same time.

Looking for jon boat clubs in NC/SC

Welcome to the site! I'm a fellow NC Boater as well. I don't belong to any clubs and doubt I'd be allow in an electric only club. Where do you tend to fish the most? I'm mostly in the Cape Fear River, Jordan Lake, and Lake Tillery

    Electric drive for alternator

I actually like the idea for a remote camp. If you had the parts, then it would be cheaper than a generator but, if you had to go get them and wire it all up a small honda generator would be a better idea. Then you'd have 120v to power a charger and anything else you'd need.

    Wire Question

Personally. I wouldn't. I don't use marine wire like I should but, I do use automotive wire. I try and solider every connection using heat shrink. I also try and use different colors for different uses. It is harder to find some of those funky colors but when you go back later and try to figure...

    Lower Unit Lube

Don't use regular automotive gear oil. It is basically the same stuff, but the marine version does a better job of keeping things lubricated if water does happen to get into the system. The quicksilver is a good product and it probably will be slightly thicker than what was in there. Gear oil...

    Electric drive for alternator

I vote that you hook up a chainsaw motor to the alternator. It would sound better than a weed eater.

    1980 16' Sea Nymph Traveler-Rebirth of Tin 2

You've done a good job on this boat. I hope you can sell it for more than you have in it!

    thompsons vs epoxy

Two part epoxy is going to be the better of the two for this application. However, epoxy is more expensive and harder to work with than water sealer. As for the wood. I would get exterior grade plywood which is not the same as treated. Do not use OSB.

Anyone wire a trim switch on the bow?

There should be two relays on the motor that control the up/down function on the trim. You need to take a 12v hot wire and run it to the middle leg of a (mom/off/mom) switch. Then run a wire from the top pole the control wire one relay, then run a wire from the bottom pole the control wire to...

    2009 20hp,15hp tohatsu or 15hp suzuki

I would recommend getting the highest HP motor that you can put on your boat. But Tohatsu makes a good motor.

    1989 17' tracker pro 17 mod

Man that boat looks good! I'm not too far from you in Lumberton, been thinking about going to Blewet Falls some this summer. Maybe I'll see you out there.

Anyone wire a trim switch on the bow?

the front of my tracker has just a normal mom/off/mom switch. Nothing fancy. You can get by with a much cheaper switch. Not alot of amps going through these usually there power is fed through a relay. As far as wiring goes, i'm not sure. Does your wiring now go through a relay?

14ft V modification started by unskilled labor

I'm going to throw a vote out for D. have it media blasted It might cost you some money to get it done. But it will be the easiest way to get it done. Turn around time will be better. You'll be fishing sooner. By the time your done with this boat, the price of media blasting won't effect the...

    1448 storage box

I would go with a thru hull fitting on the side or even the back of the boat. Then you will need to add a pump to pump the water into the live well. This line could also serve as the drain. Hard to say without seeing the boat and how you want to set it up. I wouldn't put a hole in the bottom...

    Catfishing...a new life

My most successful catfishing has been with live bait or from cut bait. Flatheads love live bait, channels and blues will eat about anything. Chicken livers are just about nasty, I used them once, but probably won't again. Best bet is to catch some smaller fish from where ever you want to...
