    Difficult Stern/Bottom Repairs?

It’s a pretty rough looking repair but it worked. It’ll be prepped and coated with paint for UV protection when I paint the whole boat in the next few weeks.

    Aluminum v boat paint

If you're going over existing paint, you won't need to prime. If you have bare metal spots, you'll want to prime with an aluminum primer. I've had good luck with Mueller Zinc Chromate primer for projects, both marine and non-boat related. You can find a spray can of the primer pretty cheap and...

Where to Find Aluminum Transom Cap

Does anywhere know where I can find roughly 5-6' of this channel, or similar, to fabricate a cap for the transom? This one doesn't go the whole length of the transom and has caused water to get between the skins and rotted the skins. I've since gotten the skins and transom core squared away but...

    Difficult Stern/Bottom Repairs?

I did this for the repair. I bedded with butyl tape and went around the edges with G Flex with the silica added. It holds water now and seems quite strong. I bought a pneumatic hammer gun and rivets and bucked them with a small 3lbs mallet. I figure owning a 35 year old boat will require rivet...

Lund Factory Paint for Inside Hull

Does anyone know what kind of paint Lund uses for the inside of their hulls in their newer models? I'd like to try to emulate this finish in my old Grumman. In person it has a gritty kind of texture and seems very rugged. I like the flat finish inside. Would it work if I just roll on a flat...

    Difficult Stern/Bottom Repairs?

Not with aluminum. Once it’s annealed, or heated and cooled, it’s more malleable. …per my research.

    Difficult Stern/Bottom Repairs?

Once annealed will the aluminum be soft enough to conform to that molded chine or will that need to be pounded flat? Would the aluminum go inside or outside of the hull?

    Difficult Stern/Bottom Repairs?

Do you think having it welded would be a suitable option? I got an estimate from a welder today for a little over $800 to that corner and the opposite corner which is not nearly as bad.

    Difficult Stern/Bottom Repairs?

I was able to flake away whatever they used to patch the hole with a screwdriver. I’m kind of impressed with how well that material worked on a hole this size, especially seeing how poorly it was adhered. Will G Flex, JB Weld, etc work for a hole this big?

    Difficult Stern/Bottom Repairs?

I just pick up this ‘89 Grumman 16. The boat and trailer were free. I’m willing to put some money and effort into getting it back to water tight, but the corners of the stern where the transom meets the bottom are rotted out. They were patched with what looks like maybe 5200 and it’s flaking...

    Suspect Pressure Treated Transom

Dale, my transom was leaking a substance just like that. From what I've been told the boat hasn't been in the water in almost a year. I wouldn't have a problem spending the money for skins on the transom if I knew how well the hull would hold up in 3-5 years.

    Suspect Pressure Treated Transom

It is a Starcraft 16 Camp SF. I on the coast in CT and I know that the previous owner used it in salt and brackish water. I will be using it in salt water, also, if I never get the holes in the hull sealed up. I patched many of them according to Johnny's recommendation but kept finding more and...

    Suspect Pressure Treated Transom

I'm pulling my hair out with this boat I bought. I started stripping away the paint on the outside of the transom and found a ton of rot. I have posted a few times of my woes. Today I observed a pattern in the rot and it appears to be concentrated on the edges of the wood of the transom. Does...

    Zincs For Hull Protection

Does shape or style and/or install location matter as long as there is enough anode there to sacrifice enough electrons?

    Zincs For Hull Protection

I am currently in the process of correcting some serious corrosion issues I found in a 1994 16' Starcraft I purchased last month. The hull had over 70 pin holes from corrosion and the transom is SEVERELY corroded with holes up to 3" in length in some spots. From the little I know, the previous...

    Many Holes In Hull

These holes are in the floor of the hull but they will be covered by a sole so I'd never see them if I went with rivets. Your method does seem much simpler, and cheaper considering how many holes I have.

    Many Holes In Hull

That seems like a very viable option. Thanks for the input. Are closed end pop rivets with some 5200 an option if I clean off the oxidation and drill the hole to size?

    Many Holes In Hull

I just bought a 1994 Starcraft 16 Camp a few weeks ago. I began by pulling out the rotted plywood floor. This morning I filled the boat with water to check for leaks. Unfortunately, I found approximately 50 small holes from corrosion. It appears someone tried to fix some of the holes with...
