How many of you enjoy a "Beater Boat?"

I'm in that process right now. Found a decent-looking Crestliner hull- no motor, no trailer, asking $1k. I offered him $750, but then he decided he was keeping the steering console, so I offered $550. He said I must be joking, so I thanked him for his time. Now he keeps messaging...

What have you done to your Tin Boat today?

Jay, That looks like a nice boat, and you are local. Do you fish on Lake Anna, the Rapp or somewhere close? I'm close to Lake Anna State Park in Spotsy.

    Honda 9.9hp value?

Someone asked the question; Why doesn't someone from another area drive up here and scoop some of these deals? I actually am considering it. I'm currently looking for a decent 16' boat for a friend. Something with a flat floor, as he is getting older and doesn't want to climb over bunks...

    Hub bearing sizing

You really need to pop off the hub to check. Some are straight and some are tapered. 1", 1-1/16", 1-1/8", 1-1/4" are common sizes for straight bearings. 1-1/16 x 1-3/8" is common for tapered, but sometimes it's 1-1/4" x 1-3/8" or other. It is SO much easier to pop it off and determine...

Pressure treated wood used for floor deck!!!

Ask them if they put a barrier between the wood and metal. It will probably be fine, but it might not. If it's cheap enough, I'd just take the chance. If it's a $$$ boat, I would like to see under a panel or two.

How to fill small hole in back of transom?

Nut and bolt with a rubber gasket/O-ring/4200. Stuff a little ball of Water Weld epoxy in the hole and press it in until tight with only a little extra on the outside Solid rivet Blob of silicone.

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

CL and FB. In person ONLY. Don't give them your full legal name or address. Give them an address to a business or park NEAR your home, and meet them there, or have them follow you back to your house. I buy/sell a lot. It's probably the easiest way to sell for the best price. It's...

    Transom: next steps

I would skin the area on the outside with aluminum. Bed it in epoxy, is what I would do. For the core, I recommend against using Azek or other PVC boards, unless you have the tiniest little motor on the back. They are soft and rubbery, and will flex and take a "set" if weight is applied over...

    16’ vbottom project

A CC is really good for your intended use. Regarding decks, I've done front and back platforms, and they are useful, depending on your fishing style. On my Princecraft, it was mainly a lake boat, so it had big front and back decks, and was a great fishing boat. On my 18' StarCraft...

    16’ vbottom project

The CC has a "cool factor", and if your boat is wide enough, it's nice, but my Starcraft's beam was maybe 6', with wide gunnels, so it was tight getting around. But you get used to whatever boat you have, so it's okay either way especially if you only fish a couple of people.

    Battery and charger

I love my 50AH, it's so small and light. I run a Livescope and an Ultra 106, and they run for days on a single charge. I also use it with a 750 watt inverter for misc. things, including air and water pumps, chargers and playing bee videos on a 32" TV at the Farmer's Market over the weekend...

    Battery and charger

Sorry for the late reply, but it depends on your use... In MY case, a single 100AH has been very similar to two Group 29' LA batteries. (I don't have 31's) With a MK Riptide ST 55#, pushing my 16' Deep V Spectrum... I can go several days on a single charge on the lake, working grass beds...

    Aluminum v boat paint

I found the Japan drier on Walmart.com and also Amazon, but I'm sure there are other places. When you get your sprayer, watch a couple of YouTube videos on how to set them up and get the spray pattern right using paint thinner onto carboard. Once you do that, when you put paint in it, it only...

    Traveling with boat in tow

I'd be migrating away from NJ too! And after reading this post, I will NOT be stopping in NJ or NY while trailering my boat up to fish cape cod!

    16’ vbottom project

That is how those boats are. The tips of the cross braces are all you have for the edge of the panel to rest on. Here is a pic of mine: What I did with mine was after securing the flooring, I shot fill foam under the perimeter all the way around, and what a difference that made. It was...

    Battery and charger

Here is the awesome battery you want. It's a little bit more than a standard group 27, but is MUCH lighter, MUCH stronger and MUCH longer lasting: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CLP4SXLX If you only use your motor lightly, maybe get this battery instead. Costs about the same as the group 27...

    Aluminum v boat paint

I couldn't find the video... I searched "Rustoleum Japan" and came up with many people who use the same methods to paint almost anything. It is very good paint. I hope the price doesn't keep going up!

    Aluminum v boat paint

I used the Industrial in the gallon cans. Big box stores will tint it for you, if you ask. I'll look for that video and post it, if I can find it... There are SO many, it's hard to find one a year later

Repairing stress cracks in a riveted aluminum boat

I think you will be glad you did, but report back as to how it worked for you.

    Aluminum v boat paint

I also go with Rustoleum paint, but I use a $15 Harbor Freight HVLP sprayer and additives. The "Secret Sauce" is adding a capful of Japan Drier and thin it with Acetone to get it to dry and cure VERY quickly, compared to without. The Japan Drier is a hardener and accelerator, and the...
