    Tunnel hull?

As many of you know, I have an inboard jetboat. As good as it performs in shallow coastal waters, I will not take it to inland rivers where there are rocks. Mainly because the boat weighs 1200 pounds, and all it takes is one miscalculation to be hard aground. Also, even with my modified intake...

ALUMA-JET- Duracraft 1648 SV Jetboat Conversion

Good to hear from you again, mmf! The specs say the 2472 sea ark weighs about 950 lbs, just the dry hull weight. Then you have to account for weight of engine, fuel, battery, persons on board, gear, additional decking/modifications. A boat that size, especially with the wide beam, would be a...

    Jet Jon project questions

I fixed my porpoising problem by making a ride plate that extends all the way back to the end of the steering nozzle, and then using a set of shims at the rear. Made the shims from some 1/8" X 1" flat aluminum stock, cut to 1" length, and with a 3/8" hole in the center for the rear bolts to pass...

    Edisto Island

Yeah, the water temp is still about 63 degrees. But these warm days will likely draw fish into the marsh. They seek out the warmth of the pluff mud during incoming tides, as it has been warmed by the sun during the period of low tide. Your best fishing is going to be an hour after low until the...

    Capt1972's IB jet build

Nice!! 8) The engine and the pump is the hardest part. Once you get those components installed, it's smooth sailing from there.

    My jet Jon build thread

You can probably get an aftermarket +5 degree nozzle, or a +5 degree pump wedge that fits between the stator and the thrust nozzle (like Capt1972 mentioned) This will make a difference.

    My jet Jon build thread

Yep, I know all about cutting a tank to make it fit the boat. This is what I had to do with my jet boat's tanks, so they would fit the profile of the gunwale:

    My jet Jon build thread

Those top loader grates are OK if you only run on open water, where there is chop (and no debris). On choppy water, they perform as advertised, feeding more water to the pump and minimizing acceleration slip. But on inland rivers, bays, back creeks, and other shallow areas, or in areas where...

hydroturf over rivets on deck (or just flooring suggestions)

This is just an educated guess, but I think the voids caused by the rivets not letting the hydroturf adhere flat to the surface could lead to bubbling in those spots. Then again, I might be wrong about that.

I just used the little ones that are on the plastic sticks, and zip-tied them to the stern light:

Yeah, like I said, I am SO glad I decided to go ahead and reinforce the area around the pump with all that plate. That probably saved me a busted steering nozzle, thrust nozzle, reverse gate, and the steering and reverse cables. The plates worked so well, that the boat itself never touched the...

A little additional reinforcement around the jet unit, to guard against any rock strikes, should I decide to venture above the fall line: These are 1/4" aluminum plates, that bolt to the existing box around the pump that is also made of 1/4"....basically extending the unit on the sides...

tips on running jet in bays/flats

I run an inboard jet, and that's worse than an outboard jet, because I don't have the luxury of being able to tilt up in very shallow water, or to tilt it for cleaning if it jams (weedless/stomp grate helps with that) If the water is shallower than 18-24" you really have to be careful about...

That's what I say every time I see videos of guys running jet johns in small rapids. I guess it's all about being familiar with the area, and knowing how to read the water. Thanks for the compliments. I have fun doing videos of all the places we go to. Already planning out some new trips for...

I'm definitely looking forward to testing it out on some new stretches of river. We have already covered several hundred miles of inland rivers anyhow, but we'll be going to new places soon! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmmXB0y7jfc
