He is a humble man. I believe the more knowledge or experience we have the more it adds to our common sense. Some times I wonder what happened to mine when I do a difficult task then later remember I did the same task a while back but a heck of a lot easier way. That’s when my wife sees me...

How many of you enjoy a "Beater Boat?"

You bet. I could fill up several pages talking about what I’ve learned and experiences. I get excited about that and my truck. Makes my friends run when they thin I’m fixing to start up on either subject. Lol On this site ask anything about boats to life jackets. Lol When I put in my wiring...

I wish I had some of your talents. I’m going to have to replace my transom and don’t have a clue how I’m going to do it yet.

I just may do that. When a bolt twisted off in the head I found a guy that rebuilds old cars and hot rods. He just so happen to have retired from being a machinist. When I pulled the boat up there and saw his shop and what all he was working on I was ready to get told/ask why are you bringing...

Aluminum pop rivets (I call them pop rivets) or aluminum rivnuts which are different. The rivnuts requires a specific size hole drilled depending on the size rivnut. But you drill your hole and thread the rivnut onto a rivnut tool and stick it in the pre drilled hole squeeze the handle and I...

Ok I confess I have a LOT of Nestle Quik containers. Sugar free mind you but a lot. It’s the only way to drink the almond milk I’m allowed since I got taken off of real milk. They’re thick plastic and I use them to clean parts , carburetors , paint , to catch gas when I pull a fuel line or...

Looks good and I really like the winch. I’m still lowering my anchore by hand from the bow. Then I have to reach over and tie it to one of the handles on the outside. Every time I do it I say I have got to put a cleat up here the forget after I get home. Lol You probably all ready know but...

I’ve been fallowing your thread sir. You have plenty of bragging rights. Your using all top notch products and you saved that boat it’ll be around for a very long time. I can only hope when I paint mine to do that good of a job. I’ll be using your thread as a guide.

Oh looking at mine it’s obvious it needs a paint job. It’s got several battle scares and a few bare spots. There are areas where I did some work and painted that area. The bottom paint slowly disappearing from the front back and showing the old paint underneath. But after I lot of corrosion...

Looking at the mityvac different ones. Do I need to get one that specifically says vac/pressure or is there a way to use the vacuum I one that just talks about bleeding brakes , power steering etc. ? I don’t know much about how vacuum pumps operate never used one. Always did things the hard way...

I had an old Sears v bottom I had traded a guy a 22 rifle for. Found an old trailer for a catamaran and loaded it on the flat bed and brought it home. I modified the trailer and added bunks and my Sears boat fit perfect. I used it here in a 38 acre lake that’s in our subdivision. Then I found a...

Thank you thank you! I was trying to figure out how to check the shaft. Didn’t know what tool it would take. I’ve been looking at the mityvac’s. Just got to pull the trigger at the right time.

I went ahead and refilled the lower unit yesterday because I didn’t want it ti sit dry. We’re having a church picnic at a small power plant lake where I take it for test runs and a little bass fishing. I’m supposed to have it there and give boat rides. Especially to little ones that have never...

I appreciate the advice. I couldn’t find any play at all in the shaft. But I’m afraid you lost me. Can you elaborate more on a dial indicator and checking for run out? When I spin the prop by hand it has a slight rubbing noise and rotates about 2-3 times before it stops. Back when I ran bigger...

Thanks for the reply. I checked and there’s not any play in the shaft so I ruled out a bearing but the lower unit is new territory for me. Up till now I changed the gear oil regularly and kept the prop shaft greased. I used my caliper today and took measurements from the housing to the shaft all...

Ok. Here’s what I got. I believe the first picture I posted is un burnt 2 stroke mix. Also my portable fuel tank is the old style with a manual vent 6 gallon. I never used more than 2 or 3 and that’s doing a lot of running up and down the lake. When the boat is in the driveway I store the tank...

Thanks for the reply and sharing your knowledge I sure appreciate it. I actually think I have a couple things going on. I do believe the sludge picture is un burnt fuel/oil. I’m going to make a reply with more pictures of what I have. I’m sorry I came back to you and editing my reply. I didn’t...

If it’s the gear case that means water is in it. I won’t be able to get to it for a few days. Is it ok to leave it drained and empty or should I try keeping gear lube in it until I get my stuff together ?
