New Minn Kota with Heading Sensor - Install ?s

I believe it determines the boats forward position and shares that with GPS and then 5' jogs are based on that forward position...right, left, etc. Not sure if spot-lock / jog functions without it, and if it does, perhaps reduces accuracy.

New Minn Kota with Heading Sensor - Install ?s

I'm having second thoughts about mounting it adjacent to TM base. However, even if I went and tested it in different locations, I'm not sure I could even determine if one place is more accurate than another?

    Anchor advice

I agree with LDUBS...on smaller lakes heavy duty anchoring gear is not necessarily needed. I use a Lewmar 2.2# claw anchor for the bow. For stern, even a small mushroom or fluke anchor would be fine. 6' of 1/4" chain and 100' of rode on bow. I. may end up using vinyl coated chain, so not to...

New Minn Kota with Heading Sensor - Install ?s

Thanks and glad to hear your TM works with no issues even though it is less than 2' away from TM base! From what I have been reading, several owners have their sensor mounted adjacent to TM base (less than 2' away) with no issues. Since I temporarily placed my sensor adjacent to TM base and...

New Minn Kota with Heading Sensor - Install ?s

The following is related to my new Minn Kota Terrova. I am at the point of installing the Minn Kota heading sensor. The manual states to install at least 2' away from ferrous metals and also the head unit of TM base.... in clear view path of TM. The heading sensor is basically a bluetooth...

Buy a new motor for old boat, or buy used boat and motor to replace.

New motor all the way! Targa 17 is a nice boat. The 60 Tohatsu is a nice motor. Consider this before you purchase.... The Targa 17s were sold as Tiller, SC, and WT. I've not seen any Targa 17s with tiller out here in the west, but have seen the other two. You could easily convert yours to...

    Anode trim tab question

I believe Yamaha uses all three types depending on the motor. There may also be internal anodes; it would reason that you would want all anodes made of the same material. I'm sure you are using the correct anode seeing as it is an OEM anode. If it were aftermarket, all bet are off! You...

    Military Battery Terminals- Questions

This article discusses wing nuts and when they are not allowed....(wires over 6AWG). ABYC E10 is where this information comes from. ABYC charges for its materials, which I think is ridiculous, especially considering the risk involved with boats and boat owners. Battery Terminals

    Military Battery Terminals- Questions

I ended up using these....with some rubber/plastic covers (pics below). Marine Battery Terminals Connected NEG starter cable to new marine clamps threaded 5/16" post and 2 AWG from new marine clamps 3/8" POS to ON-OFF switch. Battery Charger cables and NEG house wires are connected to the...

    Military Battery Terminals- Questions

Am I missing something....I don't see and ring terminals connected to the Military style clamps? I see the Blue Seas connectors that are connected to the threaded post, but nothing connected toMilitary clamps.

    Military Battery Terminals- Questions

The concern is that the threaded post is the "weak link" if you will. many times it is over tightened and can break off or cause internal damage (not always visible). Also, the heavier/thicker post is more stout and is preferred for the cranking amps needed for outboards. Threaded post can be...

    Military Battery Terminals- Questions

Agree...I may go back to the standard marine clamps. How do you cover the entire added marine terminal clamp and also the solo threaded battery post? Most covers only cover the marine clamp and its threaded post, but do not cover the threaded post of the battery.

    Military Battery Terminals- Questions

I am going to use marine terminals over the large posts on my Group 27 starting wet cell marine battery....thus avoiding the use of the built-in threaded post (not a strong connection). I found these Military terminals and they look really good.... they are low profile (reduce overall heigh by...

Quality 100AH Lithium LiFeP04 battery for less than $200

Just did a bunch of research on starting batteries for my new '23 Mercury 60hp 4 stroke. According to both Mercury Marine customer service, as well as my local Mercury dealer.....ONLY wet cell LA starting/cranking batts are acceptable for motor starting. The stators are not designed to charge...

    Alumacraft 16v utility

I had a 2017 Alumacraft 16V. You can search for many of the upgrades I did. It is a great boat! Simple, stable and well built. The WT design is great. Mine had the Yamaha F25....awesome motor and lightest of the 25s. If you were closer....the new owner recently contacted me to inform me if...
