    Lot of stuck motors

I'm in NJ but as of right now I've only parted out a few of these things. Most of the stuck motors were easily freed up and gotten running so far. I'm finding more stuck at the lower unit then up top. A few were just gummed up from sitting, a few only took a few shots of marvel oil down the plug...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

I had a conversation with a guy the other day at a local marina, they said they had almost no work all summer, and the biggest rush was at the very end but nothing like it was before 2020. He said they area also turning away all work on older motors since they can't recover their labor in doing...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

The seller with the 9.9hp Honda lowered the price to $250 the other day, I emailed him a $200 offer and my number. I picked it up last night. $200, plus about $30 in gas to go get it. It starts on the first pull, I don't think its ever been used, the 'scratches' in the cover were so...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

A buddy of mine just bought an 80's 17ft Aquasport center console with a 1997 115 on it, it runs great but he only gave $400 for the boat, motor, and trailer. It was sitting out on the main highway all summer for sale for $800 with no takers. The boat isn't perfect but the motor is mint and the...

What to watch out for: 1990(ish) 15hp Johnson

I was thinking it was missing a cylinder as well As far as the compression, gauges are all over the place, some do better on small engines other on car engines. I was having trouble with getting consistent readings from my older MAC tools gauge set on small engines, often it read so low I knew...

Going after two free boats and motors?

I took a few pics of my garage this morning, the past year's worth of buying, has got my garage pretty well full of motors. I took a rough count and got somewhere between 600 and 615 each time total. A few are parts motors that came with running twins that needed something, a few I've already...

Going after two free boats and motors?

I oiled down all the cylinders on each of these as soon as I got them home, Those that I had running got sprayed down with CRC 323 externally and I spun each one over by hand while shooting some motor oil in each plug hole so they're safe to let sit. The nicest motors got their carbs drained and...

Going after two free boats and motors?

So far most all of them are either running, or will run with minimal effort. I had the older Merc 400 running about a month ago, I hung it on my spare 16ft hull and took it for a run up river a ways. It pumped water, started easily, and even charged the battery. It basically needed nothing, but...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

I have a pair of 2003 F250 Diesel 4x4 trucks, one has 18k on it, the other 3k. They belonged to a relative that bought them and never drove them. He took ill and passed away a year after buying them. He bought two because he needed write offs for his farm. They sat in his garage from Nov. 2004...

    Honda 9.9hp value?

I looked at that motor over a year ago. He was stuck on $300 and wouldn't budge then. I bought the fuel tank and motor stand for $10 back around June of last year. There's another not far from there that's missing the cover completely that's even nicer but the seller wants $750. I'd go back to...

    '82 Chrysler 15hp outboard water

They're a pretty simple, straight forward system, the impeller pushes water up through the motor and expells it both exaust tube and the relief ports. I'd see what happens when you submerge the motor all the way, as it would be at rest on a boat. The Chrysler models didn't have a thermostat...

    '82 Chrysler 15hp outboard water

I can't say if mine has water shooting out like that or not, on my boat at rest its deeper in the water. The av plate is about an inch above the bottom of the boat and the transom is about 8" into the water at rest. I wouldn't think there should be water pump pressure there but it could just be...

    Bass Tracker trailer

I had a 1985 16ft with the original trailer about 10 years ago, here we have to weigh the trailer empty to register it if you don't have any paperwork, the bare trailer weighed in a 390 lbs, with a small hand winch, pvc guide poles, and two 6ft wood bunks. It was long enough to take at least a...

    9.9hp Motor Hoarder

I wouldn't worry in the least about how long it sat, the only part tob e concerned with is the impeller, its new enough to have modern neoprene seals and those wear out they don't rot. The fuel hose would also be something to change just because of todays' ethanol fuels but it may already be...

    bench seat top attachment

My 1971 Starcraft uses SS screws with nyock nuts underneath but the wood IS the bench in that boat. Even if it uses rivets, you cans till use screws but if buried under new carpet, rivets are likely the best choice.

    Honda 9.9hp value?

Even though its barely used and may look and be almost new, its 15 or so years old to most who don't know motors. I bought one that was supposedly seized up a few weeks ago but it turned out it was just in gear and the rope wouldn't budge. The guy that had it ripped the rope handle off it...

hull creased just in front of transom: fix or not?

I'd be inclined to just clean it up, fill the gouges with JB weld and repaint it so long as there' sno leaks there. If its leaking, then you have less to lose, I'd first support it and not just start pounding on the inside of the hull in mid air. Support the hull with a large flat bock of wood...

    Boat Seat Cleaner?

Spray Nine works well, of even dish soap and a splash of bleach to remove mildew. I pretty much treat my boat seats the same as most patio furniture when it comes to cleaning. They key is to not let the mildew get too out of hand.

    CL Surprise

That's a good find, those Force motors that everyone loves to hate are really nothing but old Chrysler motors. If the ignition is good, they do just fine. they're not as strong as the same year OMC motors but theyre very old school in their design therefor easy to work on. A clean one like that...

    CL Surprise

I've always watched CL and FB, as a source for things they're okay, but forget finding real buyers there lately. I just answered an ad for and picked up four minty clean vintage metal fuel tanks for $10 off CL, the ad said they were listed 41 days ago. One is and OMC pressure tank, one an old...
