    Picked up Eldorado today

Duals would be cool but they're a little underwhelming from a performance standpoint. Twice the weight, twice the drag. Good for redundancy and the cool factor though.

    Added rubrail to a tinny

I would've killed for some of that stuff when I was rehabbing a jet ski last year that didn't have any of the factory rub rail tracks. That crap is expensive!

    Rectifier- Regulator failure

If the stator is open, then you should be replacing that, not the regulator. Resistance testing these electronic components is pretty much one step above useless, really all you need to check is the AC voltage coming out of the stator with the engine running, and if the connection between the...

Looking at a 1983 Johnson 35 tiller: thoughts?

I've never been bothered by a motor that needs some love, just have to cover your bases and the price needs to reflect it. I like to do a compression test, spark test, and pull the drain on the lower unit to check for water or metal filings. Takes maybe 15 minutes and gives you some peace of mind.

    TriHull vs Deep V hulls

I'm pretty wary of trade deals. I guess in the rare case you might run into a deal where both parties are looking for a better fit, but all I've ever ran into is one guy trying to pull a fast one on the other. I don't think you'll be gaining much in that trade for the tri-hull. They definitely...

    1999 Crestliner Project

I'm not sure if your questions were answered about the hoses and fittings. I'd leave the rubber hoses be. The plastic ribbed stuff is okay on bilge pumps, but definitely not for the livewells. If you do replace it, go to a hardware store and get some of the braided vinyl hose. Heater hose works...

Patching holes and corrosion on a Star craft Mariner

I have plugged the holes of a pop rivet with silicon, with mixed results. It's a bit needless though when there's a cost affective solution that eliminates the problem entirely.

Patching holes and corrosion on a Star craft Mariner

Are the holes accessible from the inside? In the second picture, it looks like there's some rusty steel inside the hull behind the hole, if so, the corrosion is likely a result of the dissimilar metals reacting. There are pop rivets made with a closed end that you can use below the waterline...

Great prices on Bluetooth enabled batteries

By the time the war is all said and done, they'll be afraid to communicate with anything but two cups and a string.

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

Boating exploded here during Covid. I've never seen traffic like spring and summer of 2020. Prior to that you would only ever see the ramp parking lots overflow on the occasional holiday weekend. During peak Covid they were full every weekend. It has calmed down some now, but still not like...

    Best Trolling Motor Plug/Receptacle

Doesn't get much cheaper than this. Only bad thing is you can't crimp anything in-situ, need to have it on a solid surface...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

From the way you guys are talking, it would be worthwhile to run up to the NE with a box truck and buy up as many motors as I can fit to resell here. Any motor I've listed, from 5.5hp to 90hp, has sold pretty easily in weeks. Seems like the used market here is pretty good. Last one I sold was a...

    Boating Etiquette

I briefly dated a woman that worked in one of our state hatcheries. She mentioned it was not uncommon at all for seedy individuals to show up with nets just after they finished dumping to scoop up some fingerlings for their ponds. They don't pay the state employees enough to really care, and...

Archery hunting Bad then Good 😮

The hunting lease thing kinda bugs me. I'm sure we're not too far off from companies buying up large parcels and leasing it back to us. "You will own nothing and like it." The Airbnb of hunting ground.

New live sonar that doesn't reqired a FF

In terms of hand tools, Taiwan is excellent, China can be a coin toss. I used to be a big fan of Gearwrench until they started sourcing everything from China. Been buying from Tekton ever since.

Fish Finder recommendations - Stryker 4 Vivid vs PiranhaMax 4 DI

Out of those two I would take the Garmin all day. I will agree that Humminbird may have better imaging, but on that size unit you will never notice. If you can swing it, even grabbing a used Helix or Striker 5 is worth every penny. Big difference between a 4" and 5" unit. I had a Striker 5 for...

How’s the weather been this boating season in your area?

About the worst thing we have to deal with is floods in the spring that blow out the rivers and reservoirs. 2019 was the worst I have seen with one lake 30ft over pool. We only had some minor flooding early in the summer, haven't really had a lot of rain since. Lakes are a little low, but they...

    Engine height

A heavy duty ratchet strap, looped across a 2x4 laid crossways above the rafters, will easily lift that 30hp. Don't need anything fancy.

New live sonar that doesn't reqired a FF

There's no bigger source of frustration than a mobile app for me. I wouldn't touch it. Ipads aren't exactly cheap either, when you factor in the utility of a graph (navigation, sonar, gauges), seems like you're making a pretty big compromise and likely not saving a whole lot. I doubt that piece...
