Need help with new-to-me Merc 115, died and won't start

Pretty much. If you are able to draw fuel from the tank and it siphons well, yet you still have no pressure at the fuel rail, you know that the problem lies in the FSM. There should also be another filter under the cowl somewhere. Worth checking but not likely your issue.

    Graph mount

I like the ball type RAM mounts. Not too expensive, and you can bend or rotate them any which way, available in all different lengths. About $50-60 last I knew.

    Starcraft Offshore-V 18' Updates & Help

I'd bolt the 70 on there and go fishing. Those old V4s are dependable but pretty heavy and thirsty. I've ran across a couple situations like the ignition on that V4 in the past, either where somebody fired the parts cannon at it, or tried to diagnose and lost a bunch of stuff, they were...

Need help with new-to-me Merc 115, died and won't start

There is a low pressure lift pump and a high pressure pump inside the FSM (the little remote fuel tank under the cowling) on those, both electric. Pump failures are somewhat common. The whole assembly is about $900 from Merc, but you can buy aftermarket (or even the OEM Walbro pumps) and...

    Difficult Stern/Bottom Repairs?

That rib is going to make things tricky. If you could get the last inch or so of the rib pounded flat, I would get some 2-3" aluminum flat stock and bend it around that corner as a patch to start with, going a couple inches past the damage on the side and bottom. I would also incorporate a...

    Jon Boat Live Well Help

I'd say someone drilled that hole so the livewell would drain fully, without it, you'd always have an inch of water in the bottom. To find leaks in a livewell, cork the drain where it exits the boat and dump a bucket of water in it. Start looking in the bilge for streams. Chances are the...

    Best fishing poles.

I'm really partial to Berkley Lightning Rods. About $50, some Walmarts have them. The 6' 6" medium spinning is a great all purpose rod, goes well with a 25 or 30 size Pflueger President.

    Livewell loosing suction on plane

I guess I should rephrase, the threads won't seal like a tapered pipe thread. They're also used in household plumbing, showerheads, faucets, and toilets. Typically a rubber donut washer is used to seal them in that application.

    Livewell loosing suction on plane

Bulkhead fittings mostly. They don't seal, so they're mostly used to pass and fasten a fitting through a panel.

    Livewell loosing suction on plane

That's normal, the pump is not going to be able to overcome the inertia of 20+ mph water going the opposite direction. I have seen scoop deals that you can screw over the pump intake and capture water while underway.

Opportunity to buy back my old boat.....BUT???

I think it would likely be fine once dried out. You may see some new warpage in the flooring and decks. Most all foam will eventually hold some water, but it takes many years. Boats are made to get wet, after all. My Tracker still has all the original foam in it, it sat outside long enough at...

How have you set up your livescope?

I've always had bad interference using the built in transducer on my Terrova. It has a choke and a separate power source, neither made any difference. It doesn't seem to affect the Livescope at all, however.

How have you set up your livescope?

It's certainly better than nothing. The big downsides are that it limits the area you can see and fish significantly (roughly 180* around the transducer, on the front or back it is nearly a full circle minus the width of the boat), and positioning the boat so that the area you want to fish stays...

How have you set up your livescope?

I have the Livescope transducer on my trolling motor (Terrova). 93SV on the front deck with a ram style mount, the black box and electronics battery are under the front deck. The LS transducer has a very long cable, you can mount it pretty much anywhere. The included communication cable is...

Why are used 40-50 hp 4-stroke motors so hard to find, and so expensive?

The fact that almost everything has nearly doubled in price within the last four years has something to do with it. I also think motors that size make up a pretty small piece of the outboard demographic. I see a lot of 9.9-25hp and 75hp+ motors for sale around here. 35-60hp seems to be the...

At what point do you abandon ship?

I'd say it depends on the boat and whether or not a replacement that's in better shape could be bought for significantly less money and time than the one you currently have. I'd be hesitant to put that much work into a 14ft jon boat that's a dime a dozen around here, but I'd be a lot more...

    2018 MFS20E won't start...

The primer bulb is not going to be nearly enough to make the injectors work properly. It will probably take quite a bit of cranking on it to get enough of a prime in the system to run, especially if it was dry. Wouldn't hurt to remove or push in the schrader valve and bleed out all the air first.

    Smart Alternator

This has been very interesting to me. The handful of those trucks I've worked on around here have never came to me for charging system problems. I did do an alternator on one F350 with the 6.0 diesel, it never came back. Perhaps the milder climate here has something to do with it. Regardless, I...

1960s lonestar boat upgrade and service.

The biggest thing you will want to look for on the hull is patches, cracks holes, and any areas that have been gooped up by previous owners to repair a leak. People usually attempt to fix a leak with sealant, but replacing or bucking the suspect rivets in the area will often take care of it for...
