    New outboard battery

A lead acid battery won't stay charged 100% for long, as long as it stays somewhere above half charged they should be fine. Letting them sit dead is what causes them to sulfate, and leaves them susceptible to freezing.

Quick Minn Kota trolling motor question

Good grief man! It's a fishing boat, it's gonna get a little worm dirt spilled in it now and then! 😂 I think you'd have a panic attack if you every took a ride in my boat.

Gator Guards Keel Shield on Alum. Hulls?

I don't have one but can see why you might want to especially if you're beaching on those concrete ramps a lot. I pretty much never do, so never thought to install one.

How many of you enjoy a decent stereo in a boat?

Like others, my boat's primary use is fishing and I haven't felt the need for a stereo. Plus I can't stand listening to the radio and cell service is pretty poor in the areas I'm usually fishing. I can jam out on the way to and from the lake. If I had a pleasure boat, that would be a different...

Mercury Force 1998 50 HP Propeller Recommendation

Interesting. There must have been something going on with your old prop, perhaps it was mislabeled or the hub was slipping. Regardless, the updates are always appreciated and I'm glad you got it sorted.

New Minn Kota with Heading Sensor - Install ?s

This is it. The heading sensor is aptly named, gives the GPS controller a heading reference (the direction the boat is facing). Without it, GPS can't really give a heading without movement. Since the "jog" feature is relative to the direction of the boat, can't use it without a good heading.

    LiFePO4 Battery ?

In series you are only as strong as the weakest battery, and it's possible to discharge the weaker battery past the point of damage without knowing it. Otherwise there is little risk as the batteries cannot equalize like they will in parallel. It's not recommended to charge them in series...

Expected trolling speed with Minn Kota

Everstart 29DCs in the past, good for 8+ hours. I've got 40ah lithiums that will run for around 6 hours now.

    Best size/type Jon boat?

A 1648 flat or mod-v Jon is like a half ton pickup. Good for just about anything.

Mercury Force 1998 50 HP Propeller Recommendation

As mentioned, something isn't right. Even with 20% slip you would be going 40+ mph at that RPM. Given that information, you'd be needing a 19 or 21 pitch prop, which probably doesn't exist for that outboard. I'd say a 15 would be about right, give or take.

    Military Battery Terminals- Questions

Don't get me wrong, I have used the threaded posts for years and will continue to do so. They aren't perfect but I still prefer them over using the round posts and an added terminal. It just takes a little extra attention to make sure that the wires are in a good position so they won't move...

    Military Battery Terminals- Questions

The biggest problem I see with threaded battery connections is that the wires have a lot of leverage on the fastener. Snug them down with a wrench and try loosening the nut with the wires, you'd be surprised how easy it can be.

Buy a new motor for old boat, or buy used boat and motor to replace.

Definitely the devil you know vs the one you don't sort of situation. I'm thinking that the cost to replace the whole boat and the price of a new outboard are not that far apart. Your boat is not worth much without a running outboard. Say you could get $2000 for it, and a replacement costs...

Quality 100AH Lithium LiFeP04 battery for less than $200

The problem with lithium cranking batteries is not with the battery itself, it's that the BMS in them can throttle/cut off charge current completely as it sees fit. Suddenly cutting off the charge current is hard on the rectifier and stator, as well as the electronics on newer outboards. They...

    Series or parallel

I just dislike having to drag out an iron and a cord when you can crimp a connector on in seconds with hand tools and a butane torch. Plus fiddling around with a hot iron while you're cramped up under a dashboard is asking to get branded.

    Towing with Smaller SUV

The torque curve on a turbo engine is really ideal for towing. I had a 5.3 Silverado before my current F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost. Only 10hp difference on paper between them, but feels like night and day. The torque from that 2.7 comes in hard just past 2000rpm and peaks at 3200. Felt like the...

Have any of you upgraded your Minn Kota PD to I-Pilot w/BT? Questions....

I will agree on the Powerdrives deploy mechanism. Seems like you need three hands to operate it smoothly, you can get by with it, but the Terrova is so much better in that regard. The other distinction between the two, a Terrova retains the foot pedal option with Ipilot, the Powerdrive does...

    Tow capacity ?

It's a toss up. People do a lot stupider stuff every day. You can minimize risk, empty the boat of all but the bare minimum with just enough fuel to get by, try to pick a time when there isn't a lot of traffic, and empty the tow vehicle of all passengers and gear. The trailer very likely has...

    Towing with Smaller SUV

Towed my last boat with a 2wd 4cyl Ford Ranger. It was no rocket ship empty, but didn't seem to mind pulling that 14ft boat (probably 1000lbs all together). Even with 2wd, I never had any trouble with the ramps here. I doubt you'd have any trouble with squat. Two average Americans in the back...

    Series or parallel

Parallel. Every bulb gets 12v, and you won't lose the whole string if one burns out. In series, every bulb adds resistance to the circuit. I=V/R. So, say you had four equal lights on the 12v circuit, each light is only getting 3 volts. To get the same brightness as parallel, you would need to...
