    NEW Terrova 24V/80#/60"!!!

The deploy mechanism on the Terrova alone makes it worthwhile. I was never a fan of the mickey mouse two handed setup on the Powerdrives.

Lithiums on MK 24V/80/60...NO Speeds Higher than 85% for Prolonged Times?

I have pretty much never ran mine at 100% for any period of time, even when I have broken down and used it to get to the ramp. There's definitely a sweet spot, the difference between 80 and 100% on my Terrova 80 is about 15 amps in terms of current draw, 25 vs 40. The speed difference is .5mph...

    NEW Terrova 24V/80#/60"!!!

A lot of older boats had a pretty slanted bow cap that required shimming the trolling motor so it would sit flat. Modern stuff is pretty good about it though and yours looks fine. Obviously it is never going to be perfect but I've seen some rigs on the water where the trolling motor is tilted...

Need to look inside an engine, down a drain or whatever? Endoscope for $11- not a trick!

I'd be surprised if Hung-lo & Co in China will support that app in 5-10 years. You'd be lucky if they're even in business under the same name. I will admit that I can't stand most mobile apps and hate how everyone has gone to them. Can't even order a burger half the time without the app...

Need to look inside an engine, down a drain or whatever? Endoscope for $11- not a trick!

I would say if you find yourself using it often, get one with a dedicated screen. You can't rely on a mobile app long term, without it that camera is a paperweight.

    NEW Terrova 24V/80#/60"!!!

Lubricate your stainless hardware, and no power tools. Grease or anti-sieze is fine. Your heading sensor will need power and ground as well so it would be wise to start planning for that. As you're installing it, deploy it and check to see that the shaft is going to be close to perpendicular...

    Help with atypical motor setup

That's my thinking as well. A 25hp isn't going to plane it so you are limited to displacement speed. The difference between a 25 and a 9.9 might be 1mph. The good thing is that OP already owns the 25hp so it's certainly worth trying out before scrapping the idea.

    Down the Humminbird Aby$$

Why buy a kit? A 12v lithium battery is $50, I'm sure you have an old tackle bag and some PVC pipe laying around. Don't need anything fancy to poke a transducer in a hole. The live imaging is incredible, it has almost rendered the other forms of imaging obsolete for me. I can sweep 50ft in...

    '86 Mercury 35HP 2-stroke compression

Compression numbers can vary a lot between gauges, I don't put a lot of faith in the number alone. Last time I sold an outboard, I ran a compression test and came up with 210 psi across the board (four stroke). The buyer did it immediately after with his gauge and came up with 240 psi. The...

Asking too much from a 9.8 Evinrude?

Weight distribution makes a big difference. I had a 14' Alumacraft with a 9.8 Merc. With the trolling battery in the back (and nothing but an anchor up front), it would plow at 8-9mph and never get on plane. If I moved that battery up front it would pop right up and cruise right along at...

    Rivet Gun

I always thought the cordless ones were too expensive to be worthwhile. A pneumatic is on my to-buy list but since I don't use it but once in a blue moon I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Hand operated is fine, but if you ever run into a project that requires big steel rivets, or even a lot of...

    Garmin UHD2 93SV or Ultra 106SV?

Last I knew you can only mirror screens on the GPSmap units, didn't work on Echomaps, unless they've updated them.

    Help with atypical motor setup

That makes more sense. Cutting out the splashwell should be no big deal, it does add some rigidity to the back of the hull so it would be wise to design your stair step so that it is tied into the remainder of the splashwell and the gunnel, turning it into a structural member.

    Help with atypical motor setup

My initial thoughts are that hanging 525lbs off of that transom and then cutting a chunk out of it is a recipe for a quick trip to the bottom of the lake. I would think the thing to do would be to ditch the V4 (they are good motors but very thirsty, heavy, dinosaurs) and find a more modern...

    '86 Mercury 35HP 2-stroke compression

I've had three different motors that had one hole that was ~10psi lower than the rest. They all ran just fine, as mentioned 10% is a good rule of thumb. I think what you are seeing here is a thinly veiled case of "I don't want to work on it, take it somewhere else." You have been given good...

Lowe 1448 did i pay too much?

Stick steer is not the same as a tiller. You sit forward, steering stick in one hand use the remote throttle/shift control with your other hand.

Lowe 1448 did i pay too much?

You might consider a stick steer setup. Eliminates the need for a console, saves quite a bit of space.

Lowe 1448 did i pay too much?

If you moved it ahead, it would leave a tiny walkway between the console and the livewell (storage box, whatever that is) on the other side. Seems like the best compromise was to move it to the back. You would sit back there with a tiller too, and those handle pretty well with a little...

Want to buy a boat but worried

While I will agree that it will still be a rough ride, the tall gunnels and pointed nose make a big difference in lessening the chance of stuffing the bow and keeping spray off of the operator (also out of the bilge). Even if you're taking a beating, a heavy chop is much more pleasant with a V...

Outboard diagnostic software and hardware - recommendations needed

I had a heck of a time troubleshooting the electric pumps in the FSM on my 90hp Merc. It would run to the first spot fine, then quit once you tried to leave. If I filled up the FSM with the primer it would run only until it was empty again. Vesselview showed a generic float switch code, but was...
