    Grandpas Boat

That’s a great little 65 year old tiny! Add the memories and some elbow grease, and it'll be priceless! Done well, it could have another 65 years ahead, and who knows how many more memories… FuzzyGrub’s advice to take your time and do it right is good counsel! I rehabbed a 50 year old 12’...

    Non-Wired Nav Lights?

    And here’s a 360° stern light, but it’s pricey: https://a.co/d/2HsdBkj

    Non-Wired Nav Lights?

I’ve considered the same thing for the same reason. I haven’t purchased it yet, but this is what I’m looking at: https://a.co/d/cmDrtPJ

Hurricane Prep: Securing my boat & trailer

Follow-up: All went well… Idalia went further north enough to limit damage in our area to mostly storm surge vs wind damage. My rig didn’t budge, and I’m confident that would have been the case with even 100+ mph winds. I truly believe that the dog tether is sufficient if turned in deep with...

Hurricane Prep: Securing my boat & trailer

The cork screw is about 18”. I tested it first… Give it a try, and you might think different. Suggestions? Btw, I hope you never have to work side by side with a FEMA worker during or after event, but if you do, you might think different about that too.

Hurricane Prep: Securing my boat & trailer

I think of myself as a resourceful hack… So I’m on the Florida Gulf Coast, in the cross hairs of hurricane Idalia! I have a 1974 12’ StarCraft w/ 9.9 Yamaha. To secure my rig, I use one of those corkscrew dog tethers to tie down the tongue of my trailer in the yard. I also leave my outboard on...

Looking at used jon and v-hull aluminum boats - 10 to 12 ft. Anything special I should watch out for?

Could have been replaced with a poly alternative to wood… $325 sounds like a great price if it’s in decent condition.

Looking at used jon and v-hull aluminum boats - 10 to 12 ft. Anything special I should watch out for?

How you plan to use it makes all the difference. Given your size, a 12” boat “might” work if you are planning to be the only passenger and use oars or just an electric trolling motor for propulsion. But add another passenger and/or a motor and you definitely need to consider a 14” boat at least...

    Floatation foam

This story hit home for me because I restored my boat last year and really questioned whether I should bother with the foam. Two seats had the original 50 year old foam and the third seat had no foam. Eventually I decided that at my age safety was important, so I bit the bullet and did all three...

    Floatation foam

I appreciate all the perspectives, each with their own merit! As a 65 yr old who grew up on an island on the Florida gulf coast, I have to admit that even 50+ years ago as a kid, I took the same kinds of risks, as did every kid I knew on the island and surrounding areas. That’s what kids did...

    Floatation foam

Attached are a couple pics that highlight the importance of floatation foam on small tin boats! This young man floated for two days off the coast of St Augustine, Florida. Stung by jelly fish, severe sunburn and circling sharks, he survived because the boat’s flotation foam was intact and he...

    New guy

No one ever said that love is rational. I think it’s the right choice to proceed forward, Sonny1… once complete, that little boat will have a “spirit” that no new or ordinary boat could ever touch! Or few will understand. But you will!

    Seeking Anchor Recommendations

I have a 12ft v-hull tiny, w/ 9.9 Yamaha on a fixed jack plate. I live in Florida and explore everywhere - rivers, lakes & Gulf of Mexico.
