what I did was run a jumper from a known charged battery and connected my charger as well. It woke up the BMS and I disconnected the jumper.

FuzzyGrub hit it on the head. Just to add, even if you buy a lead acid battery you should consider a charger that can do lead acid, AGM, and LiFep04. That way you’ll be set if you change battery along the line.

Since your buying new is a jet out of the question? I know the loss of power is a consideration and weight if you decide to bump up the HP. Most guys I know that run water like you describe run jets.

Nothing wrong with plain Jane. I have a thread color here that I’ve been using on plain Jane rods that looks black. But out in the sun it shows as a deep purple. I get a kick every time someone notices it. Not much rod theft going on where I am.

Thanks , true the fish don’t care if you make them look nice. Most of my everyday rods are plain Jane these days, and my nice looking ones are getting beat to death. I don’t put the time into making every rod nice looking. There are many things you CAN do to make your rod superior to store bought.

One nice thing about building your own. No one has one like it. In winter I’ll go nuts and cut and glue all my own cork and turn them down to handles, and add some fancy thread work.
