    '78 Johnson 25 frustrations

Finally..........Airshot pretty much nailed it. Wondered how long it would take for someone to come up with checking the simple things first. The water pump is not a self priming pump. Never has been and never will be. You have to submerge the pump in water when running in a barrel to get it...

    Will a 1992 15hp Evinrude Carb fit a 1986 9.9hp Evinrude Motor?

Yes they will fit. The 1992 carburetor may be jetted differently since the newer engine has more cubic inches. You may have to re-jet the high speed. Not quite as simple as just taking one off and bolting on the other one. With some effort you can look up jet sizes.

Should I sell my Evinrude 9.9hp?

Parts availability for these engines will most likely outlive you no matter your age! There were tons of thousands sold and parts are common between your engine and the 15hp.

1956 Evinrude Lark 30 HP Tear down

I would definitely see if I could clean the screen before replacing it. Those parts to do it are out there and available however. Looking good so far though!

1956 Evinrude Lark 30 HP Tear down

There is a pressed in aluminum plug that will have to be pulled if you really want to remove it. As far as the driveshaft goes you need to pull the propshaft/gearset and see whats going on. Pull the pinion out of the housing and pass the shaft through and then install the pinion on it and see if...

25 hp Merc fuel starvation problem

Could be. This issue is a very common one with the "silver"hose and has been mentioned numerous times. In this forum we try to stress the "Do it once and do it right" method of repair. Using OEM parts during those repairs is critical in effecting a proper and long lasting repair.

1956 Evinrude Lark 30 HP Tear down

If you want to re install the earlier one in your pic the way I have done that, in order to insure everything lines up, is to bring the shift rod up from through one side and install the felt, the oring, and the bushing. The rod will keep everything lined up as you tap the assembly into place in...

    Well, Now I did it!

Are you running the squared off muffs on the gearcase for water?? If so ditch it immediately and get a good pair of round ones. We quit selling the squared off ones at the shop due to them not supplying water and customer complaints.

1956 Evinrude Lark 30 HP Tear down

okay.....time for a new bushing, felt washer and possibly a new oring. Felt then the oring/bushing goes in......oring side first. This is what one should look like. Common through a bunch of vintage through fairly current engines...

1956 Evinrude Lark 30 HP Tear down

Only one way to do the job....do it right. completely clean out the old grease. As far as the shift rod oring goes I don't completely understand the not fully seating part. There should be a relief the oring goes in at one end of the bushing. There should be a fiber washer that goes in before...

What kind of lower unit oil?

The HPF can function at 100% with up to 25% water emulsion if memory serves me correct. That is impressive.

'77 Evinrude 25 - Idles Low in Neutral

Tower shaft gear should line up as well. With the engine off and in gear just throttle it up and take a look at the horizontal to vertical mesh and you will know if it is a tooth off with a bit of common sense.

Tiller handle. If you simply tilt the handle up all the way and look at the junction where both gears meet you will see one wide tooth on one gear and one wide space on the other gear. If these mate up it is timed properly.

'71 Johnson 9.5 Lower unit issues?

you may have s spun hub on the propeller. Pull it. Make a mark on the hub and a corresponding mark on the propeller. Put the prop back on. Pull your plug wires off so it will not start. Put it in gear and turn the propeller. Is the flywheel turning? If so put it back into neutral, put the wires...

'77 Evinrude 25 - Idles Low in Neutral

The idle may indeed be the problem. Usually your issue is caused by a rich running engine. There should be an idle mixture adjustment on your carburetor at the top front of it. Also there should be a reddish plastic bushing that goes into the carb and surrounds that needle. Very often that...

    '57 3hp Johnson operating RPM

Sierra points are hit and miss.....mostly miss. That is why I said to polish up the original points and reinstall them. Good time to do it will be when you replace plug wires. When you look at the OEM points side by side with the Sierra you will agree. Points alignment alone on the Sierra is...

    '57 3hp Johnson operating RPM

Welcome.....glad to know we could help. Now.....about your points. Set them at the o in "top" if you want but, and this is a big one, there is a good chance the new points you have are not as well made as the originals. I would polish the originals and reinstall them and set them properly...
