16' Starcraft Superfisherman - part of floor replaced with pressure treated

Was the boat likely used in salt water with the pressure treated lumber? Salt spray can really speed up the galvanic corrosion. That would be my main concern.

1960 Starcraft- Should I buy her?

Price is reasonable, looks like it's been well restored and taken care of. Nice, albeit small 4 stroke motor. I'm just not a fan of closed bow boats for fishing. I have a buddy that occasionally takes his family of 4 on the salt in his 14' Starcraft so size is subjective.

    Traveler ID please.

Picture #1, the thing on the left or the thing on the right? The thing on the left is likely for attaching straps for a bimini cover, the thing on the right is a bracket to hold oars.

1960 Starcraft- Should I buy her?

Yeah it looks very nice but to me a 16' is more comfortable for 2 fishermen. If it had a front casting deck I might push it to 3 but that small tiller is going to struggle with 3. Personally I'd be looking for a 17 or 18' with a casting deck if you are a serious fishing family. If it's just for...

    Valco Jon Boat seam repair.

If you want to do it right and not do it again I would say to coat with Gluvit: GLUVIT™ - ITW Performance Polymers It's made for this exact purpose.

A quick survey who trailers their boat with the motor in gear?

Same, exact graphic in my 2006 Merc 150 manual

A quick survey who trailers their boat with the motor in gear?

That makes sense to me. And anyone that motorcycles knows how ripping hot the roadway can get. Lower unit basically cooks being so close to the road deck.

A quick survey who trailers their boat with the motor in gear?

I would imagine it's nominal but anytime a bearing is in motion, it's incurring wear. My factory manual says the same, to put it in gear when trailering, but I'm not completely sure this is the reason Mercury says to do so.

    Boat prices

My Merc 150 you push it in to prime. It's not really a "choke" per se, it's a primer and simply pours fuel into the throttle bodies. With my motor I push and hold the primer for about 12 seconds before cranking.

1998 Crestliner 1750 Fish Hawk Build- Enough HP?

It's easy to say you don't care about speed, but when your fishing the back bays and you are 11 miles from the launch and your fishing buddy slips and takes a gaff through the spleen and is bleeding out on your deck or something stupid like that, having a boat that barely gets on plane is a real...

Random Lake Photo from last week.

I have a random lake photo too- taken from my new living room window! So excited to live on the water, dream come true, only took 52 years.

I agree with the others, just the bolts.

    Mercury as Good as OMC?

I have had great luck with my Merc products. My Starcraft has a '95 25hp remote, my Sylvan has a '06 150hp Saltwater and a '06 6hp kicker. All motors have ran like clockwork with very little trouble. Take care of them and they will take care of you.

Deciding between two boats, G3 185 VF and Alumacraft 185 Trophy

My only input is I would never buy a boat that doesn't have max rated horsepower or at least 80% of max. But if I am buying new it would definitely be with max power. Big difference in how the boat feels.

Overnighting - Bring boat to shore, or anchor?

Probably one of the biggest advantages to aluminum hulls is being able to beach your boat without worry unlike glass boats. I camp a lot with my 21' Sylvan and always beach it. Did the same with my Starcraft, not a single worry. Make sure you take a good look at the shoreline and ensure you...

    Tin boats on trailers

Yeah, I use stern straps. Although I can't imagine this 4000lb chunk of aluminum will go anywhere, just due diligence if there is ever an accident.

GREAT Site for replacement decals for Boats or OB Motors~!

Eh, I've decided to just go incognito with my 150. Cowl is all sun faded, I'm not going to bother to paint or sticker it, it works fine, what do I care what it looks like.

    Weight?

I would think it would be similar to my 95 Merc 25hp elec. start which is about 125 lbs.

    Why blur out reg. numbers?

It might not be someone that doesn't like you too much, it might be someone who likes you way too much! You never know what kind of nutbags are on the web. I might be one myself! This has happened before to people, believe me, and it has ended very badly for them. You basically don't want to...

    Why blur out reg. numbers?

You may think to yourself, "but those registration numbers are seen by everyone out on the waterway or whenever it's on the trailer going down the road." The difference is, when you are in the wild you can't tie the numbers to an identity, such as you can on here. Say for instance I say...
