    Jonboat Project

I don't recall seeing the i-Pilot upgrade kit for the Powerdrive back when I was looking (2022). A quick perusal of the Minn Kota web site shows that ProNav and the i-Pilot Bluetooth are very similar. Since "the deed is done" for me, it's all a moot point. I use a Humminbird Helix 7. Down...

    TimeUSB 100AH 12.8V Pro LiFePO4 Battery Review

    I'm using a NOCO 5X2 onboard charger.

I agree that a 100Ah LiFePO4 battery seems like your best bet. Prices have come way down, so that's good for you. I have two batteries: a small AGM Group 24 that is dedicated to the outboard; the other is a 100Ah LiFePO4 battery I bought from Amazon. I use that LiFePO4 battery for the...

    Removing foam from benches

I removed some foam, OK, a LOT of foam, from the benches in the course of rehabbing my 1979 Lund S14. But I also put a fair amount back in in places that didn't have it before. I, too, made storage in the benches and moved batteries into a middle bench for better weight distribution. I also...

    TimeUSB 100AH 12.8V Pro LiFePO4 Battery Review

If there's a single upgrade to my LiFePO4 battery that I'd like to have, it's a real Battery Management System that has a readout, or at least a bluetooth connection. If I was researching batteries, I'd focus on looking at reviews that cover the brand's BMS. I think that's where the real value...

    TimeUSB 100AH 12.8V Pro LiFePO4 Battery Review

I, too, have a 55# MK. I use a single 100Ah LiFePO4 battery and have never had issue with running out of battery capacity while on the water. I don't have the equipment or meters to reliably check remaining charge at the end of a 6 hour round of fishing. My boat is only a 14' Lund; it is...

    What is this?

According to Google: "Yes, Mercury Marine still produces Mariner outboards, but only for sale outside of the United States". Now, for the rest of it, I'd be very suspicious of this CL ad. A zoom view of the picture of registration book shows an address that's apparently a UK address. That...

    1987 Alumacraft Super Bandit Restoration

Your project is really coming along. I think you're moving at the speed of light compared to some of the projects I do. ;)

    Alumacraft SuperHawk CS build thread.

I can't talk to the rivets. The boat being essentially stripped means you're working with a "clean sheet". The foam and decks being already removed saves you some work. That's good. I've never heard that aluminum boats don't need flotation. If that was the case, the manufacturers wouldn't...

    Millennium Seats.....Worth the price?

    That's no small thing! (y)

    Millennium Seats.....Worth the price?

I'm not considering replacing the seats on my boat. But at 66, comfort for a day on the water is important to me, and I'd be willing to spend the $$. I wouldn't go nuts on super high dollar seats, but the price for Millennium seats does not appear out of line with other offerings, not at all.

    Flotation - Again...

I have never really understood why the manufacturers use a foam that can become so waterlogged. Maybe the pour foam they use is better suited to their manufacturing process, or perhaps the expanded polystyrene can only be produced in a closely controlled manufacturing process.

    Flotation - Again...

I use the expanded polystyrene in my 14' tinnie. Spilled fuel and fumes is not a concern for me as I do not have an integral fuel tank. The foam board is also cost effective.

    Flotation - Again...

A 2" thick 4' X 8' piece of Expanded Polystyrene foam board will provide about 310 pounds of flotation. That's the pink Owens Corning stuff you see in the home improvement store. Here's the calculation on that: Volume of the 2" X 48" X96" board: 9,216 cubic inches. Convert the volume to...

    Trolling motor, how much thrust?

Go with bigger troller if you have the ability. I have a 55# TM on my Lund 14' boat. Plenty of power, even in windy conditions.

Anyone out there running low compression motors?

As I found out with my inexpensive compression tester, quality of tester can make a big difference in accuracy. When I tested my old Johnson 30 HP using my lowest-cost compression tester, I only measured 70 PSI in each cylinder; both cylinders measured exactly the same. However, it would start...

85 Lund Pike Pro 16 floor replacement

You're going to be waiting a long time for that foam to dry out. A very long time. You'll be better off removing the foam replacing it with new. You didn't ask, but if it was me, I'd remove that foam and replace it with cut pieces of extruded polystyrene (EPS) foam. EPS is available in 4X8...

    What trolling motor upgrade

I have my doubts about the issue simply being a deep cycle battery used as a starter battery for a small outboard. My small deep cycle marine battery has been fine for that use, and it's now in its fourth season. It says deep cycle on the battery case and has a stick picture of a boat on it...

    What trolling motor upgrade

A new outboard? Is the charging system working OK? If a new battery doesn't make the issue disappear, then I'd look for another problem. The new small outboards with EFI should start and run very easily. Mine is a Mercury; very easy to start.
