Mercury Product Protection - Extended Warranty

To follow up on my earlier post, I didn't buy the warranty and now I'm no longer eligible since my standard warranty has expired. The motor is running fine. Because of the way I fish, the number of hours on the motor are very low. My position on extended warranties has not changed: You're...

    Best fishing poles.

I'm not one to spend big dollars on rods. There are so many non-fishing mishaps that can occur, plus the risks of what can happen while fighting a fish. For an ultralight rod, my favorite is the Bass Pro Microlite fiberglass rod. Available at (you know where) for $25. Several of my fishing...

That's gonna be one sweet ride when you're done with it.

Nice day up the Salcha River

If I had to guess, that's about 0930 on Dec 21st.

    Stolen trout

That eagle was of the opinion you were fishing in his river. I have a friend who has lost two fish in the past two years to marauding muskies. Another buddy had to fight off a sea lion to keep his salmon.

Nice day up the Salcha River

Cool! Love the pics of a beautiful spot. If I recall correctly, you guys have been in more or less continuous daylight since about Memorial Day.

Yeah that one looks like somebody already replaced it at least once. The one picture makes it look like they fashioned a block from wood? Unfortunately, the best, and probably easiest way is to make a new block and put it in. I think new eye's can be had online for not a lot of money. I've...

    CL Surprise

Your buddy may have been showing signs of mental distress. Depression maybe? I say that because of profound life changes that he may not have been well-prepared for. Retirement at a relatively young age might seem enticing to many, but unless one has a plan for what to do in place of a...

If it was me, I'd try a puller. They look something like this: This pic was off the innerwebs so I could give you an idea of what they look like. These things are made for heavy stuff, so "easy does it" is paramount. The advantage these devices have is that they apply even pressure around...

    Foam Replacement

Gorilla glue website and other sources all say polyurethane glues are good for bonding to aluminum. Great Stuff, the "foam in a can" stuff, is a form of polyurethane with other ingredients added.

    POST YOUR PIC'S FISHING GALLERY.......

Me, too, particularly if my main aim is to work quickly so I can get a fish back in the water.

    Foam Replacement

There are probably better and cheaper adhesives that will do that job. Polyurethane glues are waterproof and have some gap filling properties.

Without paint, not sure what you could do to hide that wound. Any possibility that you could cover it with the state registration sticker? Kind of a strange spot for that, but if you have wiggle room on placement of the registration number, maybe you could work something along those lines...

    POST YOUR PIC'S FISHING GALLERY.......

Went fishing yesterday and took an old Vietnam Vet friend out with me. Target species were crappie and maybe a bluegill or two. Expected to also see one or two bass. Ended up with a 22" walleye. That lake is not "famous for" walleye and I've never caught one there. I was working one spot...

    Alaska jonboat

I've been ice fishing twice in my life. The first time was at Harding Lake; Thanksgiving Day 1984, if I recall correctly. We only had a cup auger to go through something like 12+ inches of ice. No shelter or heat source. That experience ensured the next time I went ice fishing was 38 years...

    Just a thought

Very true. Before I retired, I had jobs where there was always a touch of sadness on Sunday that the next day was Monday. But then I retired. I don't put the boat in the water on the weekends. Monday is the next opportunity to go fishing!

    Alaska jonboat

The base has changed a lot in the 40 years since we lived there. It was A-10s, O-2s, and KC-135s back in 83-85. Back then housing was 50s-era buildings; of course it's all new since then. Some buildings were still there, like Amber Hall. But a wholly new BX and Commissary were quite nice...

Do I really "need" a casting deck?

Value of the casting deck...based on my opinion only and for my Lund 14' V-hull: If I didn't have that deck, the forward position up front would be of limited use for me. I need that flat deck for comfort with my feet and ankles. The geometry of the V-hull bow would greatly reduce foot room...
