Do you own, or consider owning a jump starter?

With most travel trailers you are able to charge the batteries through the 7 prong trailer wiring connection. On my truck ('07 F-150) there was a specific relay you needed to pop into the fuse panel of the truck to accomplish this. I would run the refrigerator while towing on 12V power, and the...

    Ladders... I'm using ladders.

Or in a boat where you could fall in and drown.

Do you own, or consider owning a jump starter?

I have two. One for my truck/boat and the other for my wife's car. It has saved me twice. Once when my truck battery was dead. It started my 5.4 liter V8 several times that day until I could get to Auto Zone for a new battery. Also saved a day of fishing when after I got everything unloaded and...

Shucks, they were wrong AGAIN. Steak on the grill is OK.

This. Although I do finish my sous vide meats over charcoal from time to time when I feel like messing with it. If you like steaks sous vide, try thick cut pork chops. Salt and peppered then in the water bath at 140 degrees for 1-1/2 hours. Sear in the cast iron or over charcoal. Best pork...

    Sizing a Trolling Motor

I have 2 group 27 deep cycles (WalMart Everstarts) setup just like you are describing. I run a 24V 74# MK Maxxum with the 2 batteries in series and then pull 12V off each battery for other accessories and to crank my outboard. Have only ever had issues once where the battery wouldn't crank the...

    extending trolling motor cables.

Take the head cover off and inspect the wires and connections. I bought a used Minn Kota 74# 24v Maxxum that during the first outing the head got so hot it was actually smoking. Took the head cover off when I got home and the butt connection on the positive wire was severely corroded. Simply cut...

How do you screw/mount things to aluminum (such as seat base)?

This is how I mounted my seat bases, but I used a piece of 1" x 1" aluminum square stock as backing with stainless bolts and nyloc washers. Super solid this way.

To much boat for my vehicle?

Yep, towing capacity is very misleading. It's only a part of the equation to determine what you can tow SAFELY.

    Soft or hard cooler?

Got my Orca 75 quart yesterday. Really nice cooler. A bit heavy at 40#'s empty, but it will serve us well, especially on our upcoming beach trip and subsequent camping trips. Lifetime warranty, so I expect it to last a long, long time.

    Jon boat advice

I run a riveted 1648 with a '94 Johnson 50/35 2-stroke. Used to get high 20's before beating the crap out of the bottom. Now get low to mid 20's. IMO, the 50/35 is bare minimum for my 1648. Previous poster is correct about getting on plane and getting there quickly. Other than that as long as it...

replacing a rtted transom in a v-hull aluminum boat?

I have a different boat, but found it very difficult to even remove the old transom without removing both of my knee braces. They were reattached with stainless bolts and nyloc nuts through the transom and then solid rivets through the hull (same as factory). I'd imagine most small tins use...

    Soft or hard cooler?

This is what I do with mine, especially if I'm trying to keep ice for an extended period. I keep a few 2 liter bottles of frozen water in my deep freezer. Throw them in the night before to prechill the cooler. If you put things in a warm/hot cooler, or warm beverages into the cooler it won't be...

    Shear Pins

I found OEM shear pins for my 1956 Johnson 5hp on ebay for pretty cheap. That was about 6 years ago though.

    Soft or hard cooler?

I haven't found a soft cooler that holds ice well at all as well as not leak once the ice melts. I have a few roll coolers, but I hate them. They never roll well and I end up carrying them, so the wheels are basically useless. I got an Ozark Trail 26q rotomolded cooler from WalMart and love it...

To much boat for my vehicle?

Not only do you need to figure in tow capacity, which in my opinion at 400#'s under max is pushing it but you should be fine, you need to figure in your payload. Looks like your vehicle payload rating is 1,320#'s. Figure on 13% of the boat weight on the tongue and you've got 600#'s eating into...

Battery Mounted under deck with OUT battery box

I'd try to get it as square as possible.

    Hull thickness

Definitely a rugged boat. I just can't imagine it being a "pretty light boat". The boat I was referencing is a River Rocket. 1860 ModV with a 200hp Mercury Optimax sport jet, .190" bottom and sides and 1/2" UHMW on the bottom. Considered THE boat for shallow rocky rivers around here. It's...

    Hull thickness

Yeah, .250 is way overkill. Guys around here that build custom river jet boats use .190 at the most.

    Hose for bilge pump

I agree with DaleH. The corrugated hose that comes with bilge pumps decreases their efficiency. Here is the hose I used for my two pumps. Works great. https://www.go2marine.com/product/52069F/shields-148-series-vac-extra-heavy-duty-fda.html

    12 volt vs 24 volt

Cool, thanks. I read about the amp draw increase, so was a bit hesitant on them due to that. Mines an '04 or '06 MK Maxxum, so warranty has been long gone. I did burn up the positive wire in the head earlier this year. It was literally smoking while fighting river current. Luckily I didn't start...
