    12 volt vs 24 volt

I need to give one of these a try. Have read a lot of good things about them. More overall power with a Kippawa?

    12 volt vs 24 volt

Fair enough. But I HATE throwing an anchor. Would much rather stay on the trolling motor to keep me in position. That's when a higher # one comes in handy.

Battery Mounted under deck with OUT battery box

Couldn't you cut your carpet out smaller than the hatch hole and then roll the extra under? Say you're doing a 12" x 12" hatch. Cut a hole in your carpet at say 9" x 9" before you cut the hatch hole. Cut your carpet in straight lines at the corners back to meet the corners of your 12" x 12"...

Battery Mounted under deck with OUT battery box

I have mine under the front deck (aluminum) with about the same amount of clearance that you are describing. I used aluminum angle to mount a battery tray to and then strapped the batteries to that. Nice and secure.

    12 volt vs 24 volt

I fish the Potomac primarily, but typically make a few day trip to the Susquehanna once a year. No way I could fish either with a 36#. My old 55# was bad enough. I only use it for boat positioning as well, but sitting in the current outside of an eddy or seam is brutal with an under powered TM.

Side imaging and shallow water. Perfect combo.

I get little use of of my SI (humminbird helix) on the river while smallmouth fishing. I know some guys use it to find underwater ledges, holes, etc. and maybe I need to give that a try. It just seems unproductive to me to be eyeing the sonar while floating down river casting. My next boat will...

    Battery tender

I use a Noco Gen 2. Set it and forget it. Just check the water level in my group 27's once a month or so. No issues at all. On my second set of batteries for my boat with this setup. First set lasted over 5 years (Everstarts).

    Sizing a Trolling Motor

Anyone here have or know someone with K5?

I don't have it, but there are a bunch of guys on another forum i frequent that do. They fish the Susquehanna and love the K5.

    fixed vs variable.

I have an older 74# 24v Maxxum with variable speed. It replaced a 12v 55# Motorguide fixed speed. Besides the increased power, the next best thing that I'll be hard pressed to live without going forward is the variable speed. Much nicer than a fixed speed TM. Also, I'd get the highest # rated...

    12 volt vs 24 volt

12V TM for river fishing is way underpowered, IMO. I ran a 55# for years on my 1648 and always struggled fighting current. Hated it. This year I installed a 24V 74# variable speed Minn Kota Maxxum. What a difference!! Fighting current to fish an eddy or seam is the norm for me. A 55# is WAY...

    tm troubleshooting

Running 2 12v batteries in parallel with double the capacity but maintain the same voltage (12v). Running 2 12v batteries in series will double the voltage (24v) but maintain the capacity. Either way, a second battery isn't going to help you in your current situation, unless you're looking for...

    tm troubleshooting

I doubt that's enough motor for your 1756. Loosing .5 mph from your 1648 sounds about right to me, especially if the 1756 is a good bit heavier. I had a 55# on my riveted 1648 and hated it from the start. Recently installed a Minn Kota Maxxum 74# 24V variable speed and it made a HUGE difference!!

Kids today don't eat enough dirt...

Yep. Not sure about showering, I like 2 a day myself, but I have a cousin who is OBSESSED with hand sanitizer. So much so that his hands are always dried and cracked from all the alcohol he's rubbing into them. Guess who is always sick?!?!? My kid dropped a lollipop on the WalMart floor the...

For the Beer drinking/weight watching among us.

This!!! I'm overall pretty healthy. I work out 4-5 days a week and eat as healthy as I can as much as possible. Do I enjoy eating crappy food now and then, you bet!! Do I have a beer or 12 on a hot Saturday doing yard work, absolutely!! The key is moderation, IMO. I'm not eating pulled...

    Memeorial Day Weekend Smoke

195 is a little low for pulled, IMO. I like mine between 197-200. At 197 I tug on the bone and poke around the butt with my finger (keeps the jokes to yourselves!! :D ). If the bone is loose, I call it done. If the butt is bouncy kind of like it's full of jell-o, it's done. I've had some that...
