    Leak now, I dare you!

Yeah, I'll go back over the bottom of the boat with fresh paint. I just spent $300 on a new axle and wheel hubs for the trailer. One of the spindles is scarred up really bad and I have a big trip planned this summer.

    Leak now, I dare you!

When I first got my boat I did a leak test and found a few missing rivets. Fixed and sealed them. Took it out yesterday on a local lake and over 2 hours on the water the bilge pumped out maybe 5 gallons of water. So I did a leak test again. Found a bunch more leaking rivets and several missing...

Prepping for a trip with my boat. Anyone have a checklist?

I asked a friend who is familiar with the area, and he said by August the flys and mosquitos should be dying down. I'm definitely hoping for some big pike. I've got planer boards, and plan on trolling around the lake with some spoons.

Prepping for a trip with my boat. Anyone have a checklist?

Oh you bet I'll be bringing some heavy duty backwoods OFF with me. We went to the Michigan UP at a similar time 2 years ago and got destroyed by Noseeums until I bought some 40% DEET spray.

Prepping for a trip with my boat. Anyone have a checklist?

I booked a cabin on a lake in Ontario, Canada in August for the family. It'll be about 1400 miles round trip. We wanted to take our travel trailer, but it ended up being far cheaper to rent a cabin. I found a 2 bedroom cabin on Echo Lake, which is connected via about 1.5 miles of river and a...

    Aluminum paint question

I've used Valspar and Rustoleum brand oil base enamel on top of aluminum and had it hold up for years with zero issues. I wouldn't invest a ton of money into this.

    1978 Starcraft Super Sport rebuild

    1. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073VBTBF6 2. I went to JoAnn Fabric and picked out some marine grade vinyl ($20 a yard, ouch!) and used a staple gun to wrap some 1x4s. 3. The item I linked you in #1 comes with inline fuses for each switch. but I hated the way they had it setup. All...

    1978 Starcraft Super Sport rebuild

I bought some of the holders and they suck. Super flimsy and a real pain in the butt to install. Zipties are easier.

    1978 Starcraft Super Sport rebuild

I did a lot of reading online and a lot of people suggested the birch plywood if you didn't have marine plywood available.

    1978 Starcraft Super Sport rebuild

Birch Plywood was used because it doesn't have any voids in it, compared to regular plywood. It was coated with epoxy resin. Yes, I used a piece of OSB on the outside. Its easy to replace if I ever need to, but it got soaked in about 4 coats of oil based paint, so I'm not too worried about it...

    1978 Starcraft Super Sport rebuild

This evenings project - Cabin lighting. Probably going to do some in the bow too. Its just LED strip lighting with 3M sticky tape on the back. I'll probably have to drill a hole along the inside rail on the gunnel every foot or so and use a zip tie to hold it up, it doesn't seem like that...

    1978 Starcraft Super Sport rebuild

I purchased this 1978 Starcraft Super Sport for $600 last month. The previous owner had recarpeted the interior, but besides that, it was in pretty rough shape. Luckily, I had some help My headlight for getting back to do the dock after night fishing Bought a switch panel...

Thanks for the advice. Bought my (new to me) 1971 OMC 50E

Picked it up for $500. Came with controls. Its a 1971 50E. The previous owner wanted a motor with electronic trim control. I had to buy some adapters in order to use my teleflex steering cable. Steering mount with tube - https://www.ebay.com/itm/173226838697 Then a steering link...

Advice needed, going to look at a 1970's OMC 50hp tomorrow

I put my 25hp OMC on my new 16' boat but it just didn't have enough balls. She topped out at 9mph. I'm going to look at mid 70's 50hp OMC tomorrow. The pictures look immaculate, like I could eat off the engine block. Its an older guy and he says he upgraded because he wanted electronic trim...

Have you scrapped a tin boat before?

It sold today. $400, but I kept the seats out of it. He got a good deal, but it was a younger guy and his wife and he'll be fishing on the same lake I do all summer so it will be nice seeing them out there.

Have you scrapped a tin boat before?

Getting close to considering taking my old boat to the scrap yard. Its been sitting on facebook and craigslist for sale for 2 weeks. I have it listed at $500. This includes boat, trailer, fish finder, everything except the motor. I had it listed at $800 and then $700 for a while with no...

Building a tube bar over transom on back of boat

I'm wondering if anyone has done this, seen it done, or what. I have a neighbor who is a welder. I'd like him to build me a steel or aluminum 4" tube that runs from side to side across the back of my boat, maybe a foot forward of the transom and maybe 4' high. Artists rendering - This would...
